Ross School of Business Pushes Fall Application Deadline Forward As many of our readers have noticed, the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor has a much earlier round one deadline (October 10th) for this year’s cycle than in past years. Historically, the Michigan round one deadline has been in early November, but this year Ross has shifted application submissions forward by more than two weeks in an effort to provide greater flexibility and benefits for applicants. By shifting the deadline forward, Ross can provide applicants in this round who are selected for interviews with more time to schedule them. Under the new timeline, interviews will begin as early as mid-October. All interview invitations will be sent by December 1st, giving applicants time to complete them before the holidays. The deadlines for rounds two and three remain unchanged. They are January 2, 2009, and March 1, 2009, respectively. Ross encourages applicants to the full-time MBA program to apply in round one, because those who do so and are placed on the waiting list will have two additional opportunities for review in the second and third rounds. Also, scholarship opportunities are greatest for those who apply early. Applicants admitted in round one will be considered for scholarship in both rounds one and two. Round three applicants, on the other hand, are not eligible for scholarship consideration. Ross posted its class of 2011 essay questions in early July. To read the Clear Admit team’s analysis of them, click here. Ross is expected to post its full application online later this month. Good luck – and don’t forget the new October deadline! Thursday, August 07, 2008 Wharton Application to Go Live Friday, August 8th According to a recent post on the Wharton MBA Admissions Blog, the school’s application for the Class of 2011 we be available online on Friday, August 8th, by 5 p.m. ET. As many of you know, Wharton has already posted its essay questions so prospective applicants can begin thinking about their responses – and the Clear Admit team has provided its own analysis of the questions as well. Deadlines this year for Wharton application submissions are October 9th (Round 1), January 8th (Round 2), and March 5th (Round 3). This admissions season, Wharton is also enhancing the “Interact With Us” page of its website, where prospective applicants will find a range of ways to stay up to date on the admissions process. Whether through weekly online chats (each Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET) or as part of ongoing discourse with current students on the school-hosted student2student blog, applicants have a variety of means of finding answers to their admissions questions. Of course, the Wharton MBA Admissions Blog continues to be a source of news and advice straight from the Admissions Committee itself. If Wharton is in your sights and you haven’t already bookmarked this site, you probably want to. The school also posts Student Profiles, touted as “the unvarnished chronicles of current students.” Whether or not they are truly unvarnished is hard to say, since the Adcom presumably has final signoff, but they still provide glimpses into the Wharton experience through students’ eyes that can be very valuable as you seek to determine whether or not Wharton is the school for you. Finally, Wharton features a full roster of admissions events this fall in more than 45 countries around the globe. In the next week alone, events will be taking place in New York, Philadelphia, Los Vegas, Seattle, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Toronto and London. For a full list of U.S. events scheduled this fall, click here. For international events, click here. It is only when personal passion aligns with meaningful aspirations that individuals are able to inspire others to act in support of an important goal or cause. What are you most passionate about, and how have you demonstrated a commitment to this passion? (2) What personal achievement are you most proud of and why? (3) Describe a situation in which your values were challenged. How did you respond to the situation and what did you learn from it? (4) A phrase often heard among SOM graduates is that they aspire to lead a life that is an “SOM Story” – that of a broadly engaged, values-based leader who owns and solves hard problems that matter. How will you create your own SOM Story? Describe a situation in which you devised and implemented a creative or innovative solution to a difficult problem. What obstacles did you face and how did you overcome them? (5) The Yale School of Management is a community of individuals with diverse backgrounds and interests. What unique attributes would you bring to the Class of 2011? (6) What is the most difficult feedback you have received and how did you address it? Looking forward, what skills are you most eager to build or improve upon in business school?
