INSEAD Expands International Reach with New Abu Dhabi Module
INSEAD, with campuses in France and Singapore, boasted a global MBA program well before many other top business schools began to establish satellites for their programs in regions around the world. Having now added a new Abu Dhabi module to its core MBA program, INSEAD is expanding its international reach even farther.
The Abu Dhabi location got its start as a research center in 2007 and grew into a full-fledged campus in 2010, offering executive education and executive MBA programs. As part of the new module rolled out this year, students can now spend a week in January, a week in February and a concluding weekend in March as part of the core MBA program, enjoying lectures, guest speakers, field trips to and group projects with local companies, alumni networking and visits to recruiters. INSEAD MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1/Alumni/Off-Campus
INSEAD conducts two interviews and mostly these are by alumni. My interviewers had not got my essays; all they had is the interview form I was asked by the adcom to send to them.
First Interview – Junior Alumnus, early 30s. Duration 45 mins
The interview was very relaxed, in a café. It started by the interviewer telling me that she was mainly interested to know what I had done so far, what my career goals are and why INSEAD. I started with my life story and how I had come to become the person I am today. We found a few things in common and talked a bit about those. Then, I went on to describe my motivations and reasons for going to INSEAD. It ended with the interviewer giving me info about INSEAD and how to choose courses etc. To list the questions I was asked.
• Tell me about yourself
• Why MBA? Why INSEAD?
• More questions about my strategy for my business venture
• Did you apply to any other schools? How would you prioritize your decision if admitted to two or more?
• I was specifically asked about the application essay 5 – Have you ever experienced culture shock? What insights did you gain?
Second interview – Senior Alumnus, mid 50s. Duration 45 mins
My second interview was also at a café. This was a bit more serious than the first one, but not harsh in any way.
• Why MBA? Why INSEAD?
• I was asked some challenging questions about my long term goals and how an MBA would help me achieve my goals as opposed some other courses.
• What is your current role and some technical clarifications related to my job as my job is not something people can easily understand from the job description
• Did you apply to any other schools? How would you prioritize your decision if admitted to two or more?
• Tell me about your international experience. How do you manage cultural differences?
• What are your strengths and weaknesses and what are you looking to get from the MBA. Follow on questions regarding my weaknesses.
Harvard Business School Regains Number One Spot in Financial Times 2013 MBA Ranking
Harvard Business School (HBS) returned to the top of the Financial Times (FT) MBA rankings for the first time in eight years, displacing Stanford Graduate Business School, which held the top spot last year. This year marks the fourth time HBS has held the number one spot in the ranking’s 15-year history.
According to FT Business Education Editor Della Bradshaw, HBS was able to rise to the top of the rankings thanks in part to its new dean. “One of the things we measure in our rankings is the international perspective and achievement of the programs,” Bradshaw said in a video interview on the FT site. “Dean Nitin Nohria, who is the first Harvard dean born outside North America, has taken over and has brought that ethos to the school,” she continued. HBS also has added new compulsory oversees elements for its students as part of its MBA program, which Bradshaw believes may have helped HBS regain ground as well. Continue reading…

Dipak Jain will give up his post as dean of INSEAD as of March 1st, retaining a role as marketing professor at the international business school with campuses in France, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, the Financial Times reported today. His resignation follows a period of ill health.

Trivia Tuesday: INSEAD’s Language Requirement
Today in Trivia Tuesday, we’re looking inside the Clear Admit School Guide to INSEAD in order to share with you an excerpt about the program’s language requirement.
“A distinctive aspect of INSEAD’s MBA program is that language skills are an official requirement for both admission and graduation. Beyond the requirement that students possess proficiency in two languages upon enrollment, one of which must be English, students must also demonstrate basic knowledge of a third commercially useful language in order to graduate. INSEAD’s “basic knowledge” classification, equivalent to the European Council’s A2 competency level, requires an ability to communicate clearly and simply about routine matters and situations. Though students have the full duration of their studies at INSEAD to reach this level of competence, they must declare their exit language at the time of enrollment. Continue reading…

I was interviewed by CEO of an MNC.

INSEAD MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1/ Alumni/ Off-Campus
First Interview:
Interviewer had 15 years of experience in his field and he told me that he had studied in INSEAD after reaching the position of VP at his previous employer, which just impressed me a lot and I felt a bit nervous too. But, he was very friendly.
He asked general interview questions like why mba, why now, why insead. Why do you want to change fields ? And what was your thinking in choosing the new field- walk me through your decision making process ?
The interview was for half an hour.
Second Interview:
Interviewer was another alum and he had started his own startup in Singapore. He was also friendly, but almost straight away jumped into questions. The questions were more detailed and he seemed to be looking for more specific information. What qualities make you good at your current job ? Tell me an instance where you used your qualities to gain appreciation ? How are you going to use these qualities in your future endevors ? What is your gameplan for the start-up you are hoping to create ? How are you going to arrange for the finances ? How would you want to run a company if you had the opportunity as a leader to do so ?
Good Experience overall. Friendly atmosphere was created by both alumni.
INSEAD, Wharton Extend Educational Alliance for Three More Years
INSEAD and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania will continue for another three years an educational alliance begun in 2001, the schools announced this week. Through the alliance, MBA and PhD students from both schools can participate in an exchange program that enables them to study on the schools’ four campuses in Fontainebleau, France; Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Philadelphia.
The schools praised the alliance for enabling them to engage in broader, more powerful collaborations, such as the joint Wharton–INSEAD Center for Global Research & Education. In addition to giving students the chance to study across three continents, the alliance also helps the schools deliver unique global executive education programs for senior managers at top corporations and allows INSEAD and Wharton faculty to teach and conduct research on partner campuses. Finally, alumni from both schools benefit from the greater combined network created through the alliance. Continue reading…
