Fridays From the Frontline

Hello and welcome to Clear Admit’s Fridays From the Frontline, our weekly tour of the ‘blawgosphere.’ This week, as the weather warmed, 0L spirits were good and many current students were giving their advice to future 1Ls.

0L Danielle discussed the detriments of spending too much time on any legal online forum. 0L Ricky Nelson was also not a fan of the online message boards, but did have a few suggestions on how to learn more about a school’s true character.

NYU ‘12 Invisble Man knew that accepted students would soon be arriving on campus for admitted students weekend, and provided 0Ls with sage advice, which included a reminder that drinking too much would be bad, and that they won’t know what hard work is until they’re actually enrolled. 1L Molly continued to attend a class that many of her classmates did not, but wasn’t sure of the exact value she was getting as a result.  Miami ‘12 shared a story of what not do while arguing in front of a judge, though the veracity of his version was questioned. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ linked to school-sponsored student blogs, and continued to express a desire to stop blogging. Fellow upper eastsid-er Reckless accepted a summer job in Buffalo, and liked what turned up when she searched ‘Buffalo happy hours.’ 1L Cee got the internship she wanted the most and hoped she wouldn’t mind the hour-long commute to get there. Austin ‘12 Mariel responded to a recent article about the law school and argued that the writers of said article got it wrong. NCCU ‘12 TDOT welcomed the beginning of spring break and summarized his experience on various mid-term exams. Northwestern ‘12 Jeremy hinted that he had an ideal internship locked down for the summer.

Harvard ‘11 Ivy Lea appreciated her professor’s presentation of information about the Brown v. Board of Education case, and thought the timing of the lecture coincided with spring fever perfectly. Yale ‘11 SB though restating her overall love for the school, did provide a few insights into Yale that many might not know. 2L The Exit planned to bring work/life balance back into style. Minnesota ‘11 Jansen provided his own unsolicited advice to future 1Ls.

UVA ‘10 Rule 12 outlined a number of things to keep in mind when trying out for journals. 3L I’m Nobody didn’t have time to go into detail, but she listed a number of topics she’d like to write more about when time permits.

And that wraps up this round of law blog look-sees. We hope that the fine weather much of the US is enjoying lifts everyone’s spirits during mid-term exams and continued job searches! Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From the Frontline

Welcome back to the newest edition of Fridays From the Frontline! Each week, Clear Admit searches for the best of the ‘blawgosphere’ and this week was no exception. 0Ls had heard from many schools and were deciding their own fates, while current students were facing the stresses of journal editing, job searching and dating.

0L LSAT Lifer heard news from 13 different schools, some good and some bad. 0L Ricky Nelson weighed his school choice options even more carefully now that he had the opportunity to develop a relationship with a professor he admired, though at a less prestigious school. 0L Danielle explained why she asked for more money from one of the schools that recently accepted her. NYU ‘12 Reckless gladly missed her ‘Lawyering’ class due to a second helping of copious snow. Miami ‘12 Goateed 1L was temporarily goatee-free and would remain so until after his wedding. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ posited the one truth of law school is that every weekend there will be a birthday party. 1L Molly joyously saw February end 1L Esq. went out to a nice steak dinner with her boyfriend, and was surprised when her family and friends joined them to watch … as her boyfriend proposed! Austin ‘12 Mariel confirmed her summer job at a legal aid office, and reminded readers that waiting until the last minute causes typos. NCCU ‘12 TDOT praised Apple for getting his computer back to him before mid-term panic was in full force. No Reins Girl had the academic equivalent of shin splints but had every intention of working through the pain.  Northwestern ‘12 Jeremy focused on the importance of diversity on the Northwester Law campus.

Harvard ‘11 Cat shared two non-truths about her school’s program and called it the NYC of law schools. 2L Casebook Sherpa commented on the struggles of working full-time while attending law school. 2L Googiebaba found it difficult to imagine working for a DA’s office for a year without pay or promise of an actual job at te end of it. Minnesota ‘11 Jansen found a great new coffeehouse in which to study. 3L I’m Nobody drank an angry beer to cope with 2Ls and journal responsibilities. Austin ‘10 Paragon2Pieces had quite the to-do list. 3L Eliza wanted to show her husband that the law school light at the end of the tunnel was coming soon, so she took responsibility for walking the dog in the evening.

And that wraps up this week’s whirlwind ‘walk’ through the ups and downs of life as a law schooler. We hope that March brings warmer weather and strong constitutions to all bloggers. Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From the Frontline

Hi there, and welcome to Fridays From the Frontline! Each week the Clear Admit team delves into the ‘blawgosphere’ to find the latest news, opinions, and experiences of law school applicants and students. This week bloggers were up to a great deal, from learning how to use a new camera to preparing for Moot Court.

0L Ricky Nelson enjoyed his professor’s witty Google Chat banter, but worried about what was being said in the teachers’ lounge. NYU ‘12 Invisible Man discussed the pros and cons of the school’s ‘Lawyering’ requirement. Miami ‘12 Goateed 1L received a camera as a wedding present and worked to earn enough points for Moot Court. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ provided one solution to seeming prepared in class, and found himself a summer job. NCCU ‘12 TDOT shared his thoughts on competition in law school. Columbia ‘12 Soleil attended an art opening and met a judge, but wondered whether the context of the meeting made contacting the aforementioned judge taboo. Northwestern ‘12  Jeremy found the latest National Law Journal ‘Go-To Law School List’ had at least a little good news for him and his classmates.

Harvard ‘11 Ivy Lea commented on the lack of snow Boston has seen this winter. 2L Huma was quoted in an article about law and Twitter. Harvard ‘11 Cat began her clerkship application process and was strangely comforted to know she wasn’t doing it alone. Yale ‘11 SB shared her own perspective on the values of a clerkship. 2L Kel’s externship experience with a judge wasn’t without its benefits, but she worried that without the laughs it wouldn’t help her get a job. 2L The Exit gave five reasons why going to law school during a recession was a positive. Minnesota ‘11 Jansen prepared extensively for his upcoming Moot Court and shared a few suggestions to those 0Ls trying to decide between schools.  2L Reasonable found a new law-oriented television show to be wildly unrealistic. 3L Thanks But No Thanks thought that the demands of her journal’s faculty advisor might just push her over the edge of sanity. Austin ‘10 Paragon2Pieces learned about a few new dual degree programs the school is offering. 3L Eliza also provided some thoughts and words of wisdom to 0Ls. 3L (In)Sanity Gal hoped that the end of books wasn’t headed this way.

And that wraps up this ‘issue’ of Fridays From the Frontline. We hope all 0Ls are weighing their options carefully, and that current students find those elusive summer/full-time jobs. Have a great weekend!

Fridays From the Frontline

Hi there, and welcome to the latest installment of Clear Admit’s weekly Fridays From the Frontline! This week found ‘blawgers’ up to a variety of activities. Some hopefuls/aspirants received news from schools, while current students looked toward their summer job chances.

oL LSAT Lifer received his first law school acceptance, which he was grateful for even if he still hoped to get off the waitlist at slightly more competitive schools. 0L Ricky Nelson started a Twitter account for his blog. In honor of Valentine’s Day, Lovely Mrs shared some of her favorite quotations about loveMiami ‘12 Goateed 1L’s classes were cancelled so that all 1Ls could attend an on-campus court of appeals session. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ felt the pressure to step up his law school game, but planned to wait another month before worrying about his lack of summer job offer. NYU ‘12 Reckless also had summer jobs on her mind, and wondered exactly what grades one needed to be in the top 15% of the class. 1L Esq provided a few reasons she thought that law school was not the ideal place to boost one’s self-esteem. Austin ‘12 Mariel sarcastically pronounced her love of memos. NCCU ‘12 TDOT found that his favorite class was becoming CrimLaw. Columbia ‘12 Soleil was momentarily stumped in class, but an ‘adorable boy’ came to her rescue.

Minnesota ‘11 Jansen had an unfortunate run-in with a door-knob, and pointed out all it takes to have a law school makeover. 2L Googiebaba was over the cold weather, and couldn’t wait for her wife’s Massachusetts ‘trump card’ to be invalidated. Northwestern ‘12 Jeremy responded to a reader’s question about pursuing an MBA and JD.  A friend of 2L Huma nominated her for the 2010 Ms. JD Fellowship. Harvard ‘11 Ivy Lea found her stride with the Tenant Advocacy Project, and welcomed a new cat into her home.

3L I’m Nobody kept her wits together with the help of a fellow journal staff member, and imagined ‘zombie rabid bluebooks.’ Austin ‘10 Paragon2Pieces successfully ran the city’s half marathon. 3L (In)Sanity Gal also wrote about marathons, but wasn’t  sure of her potential for completing a marathon in April.

And that concludes this week’s round-up of all the latest from the law school world. We hope that all students and aspirants have a great weekend and continue sharing their lives with the greater blogosphere! If you’d like your blog to be included in our weekly compilation, just send an email to bob@clearadmit.com.

Fridays From The Frontline

Hello and welcome to Fridays From the Frontline, our weekly roundup of the highs and lows of law school applicant and student lives. This week, aspiring students considered their chances while current students talked summer jobs and and grumpiness.

0L LSAT Lifer compared his previous attempts at gaining a place in a law school to this year, and celebrated the New Orleans Saints’ Superbowl victory. 0L  Ricky Nelson dealt with scheduling conflicts for multiple admitted students day tripsColumbia ‘12 Soleil raised the stakes of her battle against mice by getting a cat, and received a summer internship offer. NCCU ‘12 TDOT considered how much of a lawyer a person is after one semester. Austin ‘12 Mariel chimed in with a post to explain her infrequent blogging, which included an experience that made her entire law experience gain more meaning. 1L Molly knew that some might be coming to her blog via Twitter, and shared a few words of wisdom specifically geared towards 0lsNYU ‘12 Reckless attended the school’s recent PILC job fair. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ also attended the fair and had three interviews with varying degrees of success and eye contact. Miami ‘12 Goateed 1L worried about finding a summer internship and tried to apply to jobs outside of Miami in order to increase his odds.  NYU ‘12 Invisible, like so many other bloggers, recounted his experience at the PILC job fair. Northwestern ‘12 Jeremy wrote about the challenges 1Ls face when it comes to their respective job searches.

Yale ‘11 SB acknowledged the possibility that she was up-to-date on her reading because a majority of her courses prohibited laptops in class. 2L Googiebaba faced the challenges of a bad economy and an interest in joining a DA’s office near Boston. 2L The Exit wondered which was more boring: prison or law school. Minnesota ‘11 Jansen preferred studying in the school’s business school environment than in the law school’s digs.

3L I’mNobody gave her readers a sense of what her typical Statutory Interpretation class was like. 3L Eliza was greatly entertained by I’mNobody’s post and pointed out ways this made her a curmudgeon. Speaking of curmudgeons, Austin ‘10 Paragon2Pieces enjoyed reading a book about grumpy people practicing law.

And that’s a wrap on this week’s deep dive into the ‘blawgosphere.’ Until next week, we hope students and aspirants alike have a great weekend. If you’d like your blog to be included in this weekly feature, just email us at bob@clearadmit.com.

Fridays From The Frontline

Another seven days have gone by since our last installment of Fridays From the Frontlines and we welcome you back! This week we continued our ongoing surveillance of the ‘blawgosphere’ and found that 1Ls had quite a lot on their minds while 2L and 3L students were a little more reticent.

0L Lovely MRS received acceptances from the majority of her safety and reach schools, but was leaning towards the lowest ranking school of the bunch. Columbia ‘12 Soleil continued to wage an epic battle against the mice in her apartment, and considered going to the library to avoid her tendency of falling asleep when doing her law reading. Chapman ‘12 Julie bought herself a school sweatshirt and recounted a humorous interaction between a professor and one of her fellow classmates. 1L Legalista shared her first of ten tips any first year should know: sell your books. 1L No Reins Girl applied the lessons of her contract law course to discuss the  change in how she can watch rugby on television. NCCU ‘12 TDOT found that some of his legal reading was making it difficult to like people. 1L Moonshine Pete shocked her boyfriend with her lack of knowledge about the New Deal, and managed to gain access to the library without her ID card. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ covered a lot of topics in a post that hit on job interviews, job fairs, and how his classes are focused less on doctrine this semester. Miami ‘12 Goateed 1L began to consider a future in the Army or Navy Judge Advocate General program. NYU ‘12 Invisible Man learned that at least one reader got to his blog by searching ‘prestigious 1L summer,’ and provided his ideas on what that might mean. 1L Anonymous wondered if she was the only one finding it even more difficult to get their reading done.

2L Reasonable struggled to keep her case together when her witnesses were late and her judge was immune to ‘please.’ Minnesota ‘11 Jansen explained why his was a blog about a law student’s life, not a law student blog. 2L The Exit pointed out a number of myths that many 1Ls might like to know about. 2L Googiebaba updated her blog with a photograph of her new daughter, and admitted that the responsibilities of school and parenthood made it a challenge to remember her own name. 2L Kel was quite frustrated by the issues of quotas she, and other women, faced when it came to gaining places in clinics, competitions and journals.

3L I’m Nobody didn’t have a lot to say due to the exhaustion of law school, but did have plans to get drunk with a friend. Austin ‘10 Paragon2Pieces felt prepared for the MPRE, and gave those with less confidence a few suggestions. 3L Eliza endured another winter but had serious plans for the warmer months. With another six weeks of winter ahead of us (according to Punxsutawney Phil) we hope that all students and applicants, can keep their spirits warm and upbeat, even if their hands freeze.

And that wraps up this ‘episode’ of Fridays From the Frontline. If you are (or know) a law school applicant or student blogger, and would like to be included in our weekly roundup, please let us know by emailing bob@clearadmit.com. Until next time, have a great weekend!

Fridays From The Frontline

Hello there, and welcome back to Fridays From the Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly post featuring the lives of ‘blawgers.’ This week the community was a bit more abuzz, with many  back and sharing the latest from their lives. 1Ls were focused on internships and interviews while other students were glad to receive their grades.

0L Sue shared her incredibly quick tirimisu recipe. 0L Ricky Nelson found himself questioning Facebook’s impact on real life relationships. 0L LSATLifer waited for his first acceptance letter after receiving five rejections, one deferral and one waitlist notification.

1L Valentina learned that her summer internship’s dress code is business professional, and asked for advice on where to get at least 3 affordable suits. NYU ‘12 Invisible Man noted the likelihood of liberality found at the school, but pointed out that dreams are more warming than law school. Miami ‘12 Goateed 1L learned that his crim pro professor is a vegetarian with a bad back. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ learned how he did, grade-wise, last semester and, relatively pleased with the results, shared his outlines for future 1Ls. Berkeley ‘12 Alex fought against buying rain boots or an umbrella, but began to reconsider after a particularly wet day at school. NYU ‘12 Reckless received her grades for the last semester and was making an effort to go to recruiting cocktail parties. 1L Esquire was generally pleased with her grades, though the perfectionist in her wanted better. Austin ‘12 Mariel returned to the blog after a lengthy hiatus, and let her readers know what she had been up to since her last post. NCCU ‘12 TDOT thoroughly deconstructed his grades from the previous semester, the good ones, the bad ones, and the ugly ones. 1L Legalista experienced an unusual interview experience that included a Hypo, a conversation in Spanish and a few valiant attempts to recall information long since forgotten. Columbia ‘12 Soleil began to prepare for her inevitable moot court appelate brief.

Harvard ‘11 Ivy Lea was moving up on her journal’s staff and as a tenant advocate. Though she still struggled with choosing classes and outfits, Yale ‘11 SB was officially halfway through her law school career. Harvard ‘11 Cat had only one day’s vacation between her winter and spring semesters.  2L Huma surprised herself by finding bankruptcy law interesting and hoped, one day, to become a snarky, haiku writing judge. 2L New Law Mom was pleased to learn that her class ranking improved, and was a happy law student. Minnesota ‘11 Jansen was older and wiser than his 1L self, and quickly dropped a clinic he knew would drive him crazy. Austin ‘10 Paragon2Pieces met the GPA requirement that her potential employer imposed on her job offer.

And that sums up this rendition of Fridays From the Frontline. We hope that 0Ls get good news as the month progresses (and let us know if you’re a 0L blogger, we’d love to include you in FFF) and that the generally optimistic mood of current students stays that way as the weeks progress. Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From the Frontline

Hi there, and welcome to a brand new installment of Fridays From the Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly waltz through the ‘blawgosphere.’ This week summer jobs were on many first years’ minds while other bloggers were making changes to their sites, all for the entertainment and edification of their readers.

oL Sue provided her take on how to tackle the LSAT assumption questions. 0L Ricky Nelson was grateful to his parents for their financial backup, but felt guilty that not all future law students had similar support. 1L Anonymous participated in 3 summer job interviews in 18 hours. NYU ‘12 Invisible Man sarcastically suggested that changing how one refers to their studies will make them more important. Miami ‘12 Goateed 1L completed his first week of classes in the new year and turned his attentions to football. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ continued to await his grades from the previous semester, and refused to change his study habits until he knew whether they were helpful or hurtful. NCCU ‘12 TDot’s trial team came in second at the Kilpatrick-Stockton Case Competition. Columbia ‘12 Soleil was not overly pleased with her first Legal Practice Workshop assignment, and accidentally missed one of her morning classes. The new year saw Northwestern ‘12 Jeremy make a few changes to his blog, which included more posts and tactical advice.

Harvard ‘11 Ivy Lea welcomed suggestions on how she could celebrate her 100th blog post. Yale ‘11 SB wondered what the most important number in a person’s life was, and outlined a few possibilities. 2L Huma shared what her next 16 weeks would be like now that her second semester kicked off, and it was a little dire. 2L Laughing was shocked to find that the loud people in the library weren’t 1Ls … they were 3Ls! Minnesota ‘11 Jansen got a new dog and named her Gertrude.

3L I’m Nobody did not find her third year to be any easier or boring than her first two years. 3L (In)Sanity Gal wholeheartedly enjoyed her weekend visit to Vermont, cocktails, woolen stockings, dance parties and all. Austin ‘10 Paragon2Pieces shared some news about the school’s Center for Women in Law and its new Executive Director.

And that wraps up this round of the realities of applying to, and attending, law school. We here at Clear Admit hope that the fresh semesters are full of fun, and not too terribly draining, for current students, and that aspiring law students keep their eyes on the goal as they move forward in their application process. Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From The Frontline

Hi there, and welcome to Fridays From the Frontline, Clear Admit’s regular post focused on the ‘blawgosphere.’ As 2010 barrelled into its second week, many current students found themselves back in classes and looking for summer jobs.

Ricky Nelson
asked his readers for input on whether having a roommate during one’s first year is a good or bad thing. 1l Valentina found her ‘cast a wide net’ strategy for finding a summer job wasn’t as effective as a more targeted search. Miami ‘12 Goateed 1L suited up for moot court. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ faced a literal half-marathon and a figurative full marathon. 1L Esquire recounted the fun times she had over break, from decadent meals in Atlantic City to drunken pancakes in Pittsburgh. NCCU ‘12 TDOT shared his spring semester schedule. 1L No Reins Girl shared a few law school observations and expressed awe over her classmates who balance school, work and single parenthood. Chapman ‘12 Julie Ann enjoyed her three weeks of relaxation, but was ready for her second semester to begin. Columbia ‘12 Soleil continued to battle with a mouse in her apartment and looked forward to classes recommencing.

Iowa ‘11 Laura was not attending the Association of American Law Schools Conference, but wished she was. Harvard ‘11 Cat enjoyed her winter term and shared some of her favorite spots in Cambridge. John Marshall ‘11 Huma found herself frustrated that many don’t understand that lawyers have specialties. 2L New Law Mom, though a little tired, was pleased with the process of preparing for National Appellate Advocacy Competition. 2L Lisslo began to consider her future job possibilities in a more concrete manner, and found it a bit daunting. While waiting for a new family member to arrive, 2L Googiebaba went to a tattoo parlor.

3L I’m Nobody described the law school lifestyle as “throw on jeans, listen to smart people talk, read some things, think some things, change into sweats, repeat.” Though she had the gear, 3L (In)Sanity Gal had a bit of fear about her upcoming ski trip in Vermont.

And that wraps up this week’s wander through the hallowed virtual halls of law school bloggers. We hope everyone’s semester started out strongly and that they enjoy this weekend! And remember, if you are a current law school applicant or student, just email bob@clearadmit.com to be included in our weekly roundup.

Fridays From The Frontline

Hello and welcome to Fridays From The Frontline! Another week has passed, holidays have been celebrated, and it’s a new year! Bloggers were a bit on the quiet side, probably enjoying their well earned break and gearing up for New Years Eve. But for those who did post, it was clear they were already looking toward their next semesters while still reflecting on the one just behind them.

oL Ricky Nelson was alternately terrified and amused by a certain Facebook group. NYU ‘12 Invisible Man recounted the strange mind space he entered after completing his finals and knew he should start preparing for his summer job search.  NYU ‘12 Reckless also was also thinking about summer jobs, but was experiencing a bit of a delay in actually getting applications together.  NCSU ‘12 TDOT wished his readers a merry Christmas. Columbia ‘12 Divine Details sold all her first semester books and received a nice gift from her parents: the ability to buy her own presents. NYU ‘12 IDWSJ shared his super secret and diabolical strategy to choosing the perfect seat. Austin ‘12 Mariel wrote about why she wanted to be a lawyer. 1L No Reins Girl benefited from a break and was able to look at her shaky K exam with a clearer head. 2l Abbie didn’t have resolutions for 2010, she had goals, which included reading more fiction and flossing.

Harvard ‘11 Cat wrapped her Christmas gifts in law school practice exams. Northwestern ‘11 Jeremy shared a link focused on job tips, and mustered his motivation for the coming semester. 2L Googiebaba said no to hair extensions. Minnesota ‘12 Jansen made a plant stand out of his law books.

And that’s all to report in this weekly installment of the events in the law school blogging community. We hope 2010 is off to a good start for all readers and bloggers. Remember, if you’d like to be included in Fridays From The Frontline, as an applicant or student blogger, just email bob@clearadmit.com. Have a great weekend!
