Welcome back to Wiki Wednesdays, in which we feature MBA interview reports that have recently been added to the Clear Admit Wiki! This week we’ve received a stream of new interview reports for schools such as Northwestern / Kellogg, Dartmouth / Tuck, and Duke / Fuqua. Also, a Round 1 applicant to Cornell / Johnson shared this interview experience:
“I interviewed on campus in conjunction with the Johnson Women in Business event, a two day women’s recruiting event. I received an invitation to interview prior to the event but all attendees were invited to interview regardless of if an invitation had been extended yet. The interviews were the first part of the event followed by two days of class visits and speaker events. My interview was with a member of the admissions staff and the interview was relatively formal with structured questions. I had met the person with whom I interviewed at a prior open house in my area so because we had met before and had kept in touch over email, the interview felt a bit more informal than it would have likely otherwise.
The interview was largely based off information in my resume. I had already submitted my application but I do not know if that information was used to ask specific questions.
Interview questions:
- Walk me through your resume
- What led you to this career path and why
- What are your short and long term career goals » Continue reading

Posted in: Interview: INSEAD , School: INSEAD , Wiki Wednesdays Welcome once again to Wiki Wednesdays, in which we feature MBA interview reports that can be found on the Clear Admit Wiki, an online repository where business school applicants share their admissions experiences. Although most MBA programs are wrapping up the 2010-2011 admissions season, candidates are still being interviewed at some schools, including INSEAD. To that end, today we’re highlighting an account of two INSEAD interviews that a Round 2 candidate shared with us earlier this year:
“First interview: My interviewer is a senior associate / project manager at a large well-known consulting company. He went to undergrad in Europe, and was extremely nice and personable. The interview itself was very relaxed, and I barely felt like I was interviewing. It was very much a discussion to get to know each other, as he did not really ask any probing or behavioral questions – he simply wanted to get to know me, and see how I would fit in at INSEAD. He even said, himeselt, that the interview was more of a “sanity check” as opposed to a real interview. The interview went for a little over an hour. Major questions asked:
- Tell me about yourself – here he wanted to get to know me and my background a bit. He wanted to know the basics of my education thus far, and about my work experiences » Continue reading
Welcome back to Wiki Wednesdays, in which we highlight MBA interview reports that have been posted to the Clear Admit Wiki! While many admissions committees have finished interviewing applicants for fall 2011 entry, some schools, including London Business School, are still conducting interviews. So, let’s take a look at the report of an off-campus interview with an alum that an LBS candidate shared earlier this application season:
“I had my interview a few days back and I have listed some of the questions that I was asked (at least the ones I remember!) My interviewer was from the same industry as me; in fact the company she works for is a major client of ours! We met in her office at 5 pm and the interview lasted a little more than an hour.
The questions in random order are listed below..
- What would your team mates have to say about you?
- How do you handle pressure/ stress?
- What are some of your limitations/ weaknesses?
- Example of when you led a group of people to achieve a common objective
- What other schools you are applying to? Where does LBS stand?
- Why LBS?
- Why MBA now?
- Example of when you took a risk – both personal and professional
- Example of a setback/ failure and how you dealt with it » Continue reading

Posted in: Interview: INSEAD , School: INSEAD , Wiki Wednesdays Welcome to May’s first installment of Wiki Wednesdays, our weekly review of MBA interview reports that have recently been added to the Clear Admit Wiki! Today we’re featuring an account of a Round 2 INSEAD applicant’s interviews with alumni:
“Scheduling the interview
I received my notification that I had been selected to interview in early January, about 5 weeks after the Round 2 deadline. A few days later I received an email with my interviewers’ names and contact information. I sent them each an email with my availability in the next month. I proposed dates starting a week later to give myself at least a week to prepare for my first interview since this was my first business school interview. I proposed quite a few dates on Fridays and the weekend since I am only in town Friday-Sunday. After several iterations of scheduling due to last minute conflicts on my part and my interviewers’ parts, I had 3 weeks before my first interview. » Continue reading

Posted in: Interview: Georgetown , School: Georgetown , Wiki Wednesdays Welcome back to Wiki Wednesdays, in which we feature MBA interview reports that have recently been added to the Clear Admit Wiki, an online repository for applicants to share their MBA admissions experiences. Today we’re highlighting an account of a Round 3 interview with a first-year student sent to us by a candidate for Georgetown / McDonough:
“I was invited to interview for R3. Since I was going to be taking a day off to go to Washington D.C., I opted to sit in on a finance class. The student assigned to me was very helpful in giving me her insights on why she chose Georgetown over her other choices.
My interview was with a first year student. Because Georgetown shares the interviewer’s name in advance, I was able to look him up and get insight on the student clubs he was involved in on campus.
Interview lasted about 40 minutes. Here are details:
- Blind interview (I was asked to bring in a copy of my resume)
- Tell me about yourself (resume walkthrough).
- How is an MBA important in attaining your short/long term goals?
- Why an MBA now (why leave current job)?
- What did I like about Georgetown?
- What do I do in my free time?
- Difficult situation I had to navigate through.
- What student organizations I would get involved in and why? What position will I aim for in the organization? » Continue reading
Welcome to this week’s installment of Wiki Wednesdays, in which we highlight interview reports added to the Clear Admit Wiki, an online repository for MBA applicants to share their experiences with the admissions process. This week, we’re setting the spotlight on a Round 2 candidate’s interview for London Business School with an alum:
“My interview was at the office of my interviewer after work. We met at 6.30pm and didn’t get out until just after 9pm (I certainly wasn’t expecting such a long interview, but it seemed to go well). He wasn’t from the same background as me, nor was he in the industry that I want to go into.
I got the impression that he had only briefly skimmed my CV, so we started off by talking through that. Following on from that were fairly typical questions:
- Why do you want to do an MBA?
- What is your career vision?
- What is leadership?
- Why are you a leader?
- What is your main weakness when managing people? » Continue reading

Posted in: Interview: NYU Stern , School: NYU Stern , Wiki Wednesdays Welcome once again to Wiki Wednesdays, our weekly review of the latest MBA interview accounts to be added to the Clear Admit Wiki! Interview season is winding down now, but we’ve still received new interview reports for schools such as London Business School and Duke / Fuqua. Also, a Round 2 applicant to NYU / Stern shared this account of an interview with an admissions official:
“I was greeted with a packet of program information based on my career preference, and they also gave me a Stern t-shirt, like others mentioned earlier. After some initial chitchat of how I got to the city, we went straight to the interview:
- She started by asking how I developed the hobby I mentioned in my third essay.
- My career progression / roles in my job.
- Describe/justify my career goal.
- What to do if I could not get the summer internship I wanted.
- How would my friends describe myself? » Continue reading

This week, we’ve received new interview reports for schools such as Yale SOM, UVA / Darden and Northwestern / Kellogg. Also, a Round 2 applicant to UCLA / Anderson shared this interview experience:
“Interview was with an alumni near me at a Starbucks. The atmosphere was very cordial and we ended up speaking for almost 1.5 hours. While the dialogue was very conversational, the mail questions were as following:
- Tell me about yourself/walk me through your resume
- Situation at work involving analytical challenge(plus lots and lots of probing questions)
- Why do you need an MBA
- What would you have done differently in your job if you could go back(very open ended)

Posted in: Interview: Harvard , School: Harvard , Wiki Wednesdays Welcome again to Wiki Wednesdays, Clear Admit’s weekly overview of MBA interview reports that have recently been added to the Clear Admit Wiki! We’ve received quite a few new interview reports this week, including ones for UCLA / Anderson, MIT / Sloan, USC / Marshall, and Duke / Fuqua. Today we’re featuring a new account of a Round 2 interview that a candidate for Harvard Business School had with a member of the admissions committee:
“From start to finish the application process was grueling.. but all worth it because I received the admit! Throughout the interview my interviewer was very friendly. We started off with small talk about getting up to HBS. She briefly introduced herself, and then explained that we would have a half hour and likely not have enough time for questions. There was lots of follow-up questions/discussions based on how I answered initial questions, and a number of questions specifically tailored to my individual background.
- How did you end up at your company?
- General question about the company structure
- Specific question tailored to my mistake essay
- Give me an example of a project that you had a difficult time with
- Your recommender mentioned that you are a top performer, why do you think that is?
- Leadership discussion spawned off my response to above question
- How will you contribute to the case method? » Continue reading
Welcome back to Wiki Wednesdays, our weekly review of MBA interview reports that have recently been added to the Clear Admit Wiki! In this past week, we’ve received new interview reports for schools including INSEAD, Northwestern / Kellogg, Michigan / Ross, Oxford / Said and NYU / Stern. Also, a Round 3 candidate for UNC / Kenan-Flagler shared the following account of an interview with an adcom member:
“I applied for the third deadline, and opted for an off-campus interview. I was interviewed on January 21, 2011 at a hotel in San Francisco. My interviewer was Sherry Wallace, Director of MBA Admissions. She was visibly exhausted conducting back-to-back interviews for two days in a row, but was still very friendly and inspiring. We started off with my current job and she asked me to explain my duties and the significance of my work as a Traffic Safety Engineer at Caltrans. Other questions included:
- Why an MBA? Why do you want to work on improving infrastructure in the emerging markets (my career goal)? What is your inspiration and motivation?
- Why Kenan-Flagler?
- What is one thing that you are most proud of? (I gave example of a personal and a professional accomplishment)
- What are your greatest qualities that people who know you well would talk about? » Continue reading

Throughout the week, we’ve posted new interview reports for schools including HBS, Yale SOM and UNC / Kenan-Flagler. Recently, a Round 2 candidate for MIT / Sloan shared this off-campus interview with a member of the admissions committee:
“I arrived about 30 minutes early, sat in the lobby and just playing notes in my head on things I want to make sure I cover…
- Meet and greet, quick ice-breaker about weather (foggy day) and she explained that interview will be 30 min, including time for me to ask questions; I handed over my transcript.
Questions:
- Any updates since you submitted your app? (I talked about a recent promotion)
- Give me an example of a situation when expectations were not met (talked about a personal situation that I solved)
- Give me a personal goal you have set or are working on (talked about working out, had some fun chit chat about dessert)
- Proudest accomplishment (talked about a presentation at work I made to the senior management; I pulled out a copy of the ppt, she did not seem too interested so not sure if that helped or not)
- Greatest risk taken (talked about my immigration process, then digressed to talk about my family and shared some common background) » Continue reading

Posted in: School: Columbia , Wiki Wednesdays Welcome back to Wiki Wednesdays, in which we highlight the latest MBA interview reports that applicants have added to the Clear Admit Wiki! We’ve continued to receive a steady stream of interview reports this past week, including accounts of interviews at UCLA / Anderson, Chicago / Booth, Harvard Business School and Michigan / Ross. Recently, a Regular Decision candidate for Columbia Business School sent in this report of her interview with an alum:
“I had an alum interview about a month ago. I e-mailed all three alumni in my initial list and went with the person that responded the quickest and had the most flexibility. This interview was very relaxed and much more laid back than any of my other business school interviews. Questions were very “by the book”, having read this site before:
