USC / Marshall has just released its deadlines for the upcoming admissions season. The deadlines are as follows:

Application Deadlines
Round 1: November 1, 2010
Round 2: January 15, 2011
Round 3: March 15, 2011

Notification Dates
Round 1: February 1, 2011
Round 2: April 1, 2011
Round 3: May 15, 2011

USC Marshall Essay Topic Analysis 2009-2010

Although this year’s essays topics and requirements are significantly different from last year’s, Marshall still demonstrates an interest in applicants’ contributions to their communities, international experiences, and personal growth.  Let’s take a look at the questions asked for USC for the 2009-2010 application season:

The USC/Marshall essay topics for the 2009-2010 admissions season are now available! The essay topics are as follows:

1. What are your short-term and long-term post-MBA goals? How will USC Marshall help you achieve these goals? (750 words) If interested in a dual-degree program, please address in this essay.

2. How will other USC Marshall MBA students benefit from your background, experience, leadership and teamwork skills? (500 words)

3. Select three from the following and describe: (250 words each)

b) A personal or professional setback
c) An entrepreneur you admire

Two California-Based EMBA Programs: UCLA and USC Marshall

Last week we offered a rundown of two New York City-based EMBA programs, NYU Stern and Columbia. This week, for candidates interested in pursuing a degree on the West Coast, we’d like to take the time to discuss the similarities and differences between the EMBA programs at UCLA and USC Marshall.

Like Stern and Columbia, these California-based programs tend to attract an older crowd of applicants. The average age of students in the UCLA and Marshall programs is 38 and 37, respectively, indicating that the majority of applicants have had 10-15 years of work experience. USC Marshall Essay Topic Analysis 2008-2009

This year, the USC Marshall essay topics require that candidates submit four essays, though applicants can select two of three options when completing their final response. Let’s take a look at the questions asked for USC for the 2008-2009 application season:

Essay 1: Describe in a brief essay (do not exceed 250 words per section – 750 words maximum):
a) your post-MBA short-term goals (immediately after graduation),
b) your post-MBA long-term goals (3-5 years after graduation), and
c) how your professional experience, when combined with an MBA degree, will enable you to achieve these goals.
