Posted in: Interview Tips , Interview: London Business School Check out the latest addition to the Clear Admit Wiki, a free online resource for MBA applicants to share their experiences with the admissions process! An MBA candidate for London Business School posted the following admissions interview:
“I had an interview with an alumni in Paris. We met at a local cafe with a very nice setting. I came about 15 minutes earlier to be prepared and allow some margin for getting lost.
The interviewer started by introducing himself briefly and we jumped to the interview start away:
- Walk me through your resume
- What are your short and long term goals + tons of follow-up questions that took about an1 / 1.5 hours to answer ; I brought up why MBA, why LBS a lot here and used very specific examples of the LBS program to support my answers (it came naturally into the discussion without seeming planned)
- What are three adjectives you would use to describe LBS and why?
- Have you applied to other schools?
- Then he asked the case study question and gave me some time to prepare.
- Finally, he asked if I had any questions and he took his time to answer those.
Overall the interview was about 2.5 hours.”

Posted in: Interview Tips , Interview: Columbia Take a peek at the latest addition to the Clear Admit Wiki, a free online resource for MBA applicants to share their experiences with the admissions process! This MBA candidate shared the following interview experience for admission to Columbia Business School:
“Applied to Columbia MBA program: Jan. 15th, 2012
Invited to Interview: Mar. 5th, 2012
Interviewed: Mar. 11th, 2012
Status Changed to Complete: Mar. 14th, 2012
We met at a Starbuck’s in Atlanta yesterday. The interviewer was a recent grad who works for McKinsey. He was candid, straight-forward, and didn’t let things feel formal. He first gave me a chance to ask questions about his Columbia and work experience. It was a great way to break the ice. This lasted for 15 minutes. We thoroughly discussed the academics at Columbia (particularly around finance and Heilbrunn) along with the new grades disclosure policy during the course of my questions for him.
We then went into the set questions. The list is below, which may not be totally inclusive due to the natural course of the conversation. This lasted for 20-30 minutes or perhaps a little longer.
- Give a personal example of leadership or teamwork in a professional setting.
- Describe an ethical dilemma and how I dealt with it. » Continue reading

This Round 2 candidate for UCLA / Anderson shared the following interview experience with a second-year student:
“I applied in Round 2 and was interviewed via Skype with a 2nd-year student on March 8, 2012.
I signed in my Skype account about 20 minutes prior the interview and realized that the student had already added me some minutes before.
He later called me promptly at the interview time. He was very friendly with a cute smile. He introduced himself and tried to make me feel at ease. He said the interview would last 30 minutes. He would ask me about my candidacy for 20 minutes and the rest was for my questions.
First, he asked me to show him my passport/photo ID so that he could take a photo of it. I had never been asked to do so by other schools so I just forgot Fortunately, I could go and get it in some seconds.
It was a blind interview as all he had known about me was through my resume. Here are the interview questions I was asked:
- Why are you interested in applying to UCLA Anderson? In my answer, I mentioned the name of an alumnus I contacted and he asked me to type the alumnus’s name for him in the chat window. At the end of my answer, he commented that it was one of the best answers (to this question) he had heard this season and shared that he had interviewed about 30 candidates or so. » Continue reading

Posted in: Interview Tips , Interview: Chicago Booth , School: Chicago Check out the latest addition to the Clear Admit Wiki, a free online resource for MBA applicants to share their experiences with the admissions process! This Round 2 candidate for Chicago Booth shared the following interview experience with an alumna:
“I interviewed at Booth for round 1 , Nov 19,2011, on campus. I was invited to interview so I was very happy. It was a Saturday so I did not have to worry about parking. My interview was at 9:30 am, I arrived at 9:00 am.
While I waited from my interview, there were students in the waiting area who would talk to you about Booth (seems pretty standard these days), but all nice people and answer all questions. I would advise exploiting this opportunity. The interview itself was done by a Booth Alum (2011). It just so happened she was of the same ethnic background as me (coincidence?). As soon as we sat down she took her watch off and said she had exactly half an hour.
Questions were all standard , all available on the Clear admit page

Posted in: Interview Tips , Interview: Michigan / Ross , School: Michigan / Ross As MBA interview season is heating up, we’ve had a plethora of posts to the Clear Admit Wiki, a free resource for applicants navigating the MBA admissions process. A recent candidate for Michigan / Ross shared the following interview experience with a second-year student:
“I flew in to Detroit and then drove to Ann Arbor a day before the interview and stayed with a friend. In the evening prior to the interview, I took a tour of the U of M campuses and was really impressed by the college-town concept. The central campus, where Ross is located, seems like a great place to spend 2 years of my life. The downtown and the campus flow seamlessly into one another and were pretty vibrant. Parking seemed to be an issue because the nearest parking deck is like 3-4 blocks away. There is plenty of street parking around the building, but remember to carry plenty of quarters with you.
The environment at the school was pretty friendly and welcoming. I reached about 30 mins prior to my interview and sat in a study area/cafe close to the admissions office (a floor below the office).
I was interviewed by a second year student who had landed a consulting job. It was pretty conversational. He did take a lot of notes while I talked. It was a blind interview as in the interviewer had only read my resume and so a lot of questions were from what he saw on the resume.
List of interview questions:
- Tell me about yourself/background?
- Why an MBA at this point in your career?
- Why specifically Ross? (He touched on this point again later in the interview and said that a lot of other schools had clubs and centers in my area of interest, so what specifically about Ross excited me and why i think those centers at Ross make more sense than some of the other centers at other schools)
- Leadership example? » Continue reading
Check out the latest addition to the Clear Admit Wiki, a free online resource for MBA applicants to share their experiences with the admissions process! A Round 2 candidate for Northwestern / Kellogg had the following interview experience with an alumnus:
“I completed my Kellogg on campus interview on 9th Feb 2012. I am a R2 candidate. I had scheduled my appointment at 2 PM. I flew to Evanston Illinois on 6th Feb to visit the school and interact with the students. This experience definitely helped me in my interview. I reached my destination well before time and I was chatting with other candidates while I was waiting to be called. This interaction definitely took some pressure off my mind.
My interview began at 2:00 PM sharp and my interviewer was a 2010 Kellogg alumni. He was very friendly and he made every attempt to make me feel comfortable throughout the interview process. Here are the list of questions he asked me, not necessarily in the order he asked me.
- Why and how did you choose you undergraduate major?
- What were my extra curricular activities in college?
- What are my short term / long term goals? » Continue reading

Posted in: Interview Tips , Interview: UVA / Darden , School: Virginia / Darden Welcome to another interview report posted recently to the Clear Admit Wiki, a free resource for MBA admissions applicants to share their experiences from the admissions process. This Round 2 candidate for UVA / Darden chatted with a second-year student for the following admissions interview:
“I had a Skype interview this morning, 6am my time (yuk). I was really prepared on the technology side, but for 10 minutes of trying different calls and computers she kept saying she couldn’t hear me. In the end her volume was on mute!
Anyway, we started quite late and she explained she was a 2nd year MBA student doing the recruiting as part of her program. It was her first Skype interview. She also explained that she wanted me to tell her my story and Why Darden for ~30 mins, with her interjecting with questions every now and then, followed by some time for me to ask questions.
And that was exactly how it went:
- My story: 30 mins, a few clarifications (we had a bad line)
- Why Darden: 5 mins – got totally cut off after outlining only one of my FOUR points, but we were running out of time due to the late start.
- ST/LT goals: 8 mins » Continue reading

Posted in: Interview Tips , Interview: Michigan / Ross , School: Michigan / Ross Welcome to another interview report posted recently to the Clear Admit Wiki, a free resource for MBA admissions applicants to share their experiences from the admissions process. This Round 1 candidate for Michigan / Ross had the following interview with a second-year student:
“I interviewed on Dec 1, 2011 as part of the R1 application process for Ross. I got in the afternoon before, so I was able to do a little bit of exploring in the AA area on my own to get a feel for how it was as a town. I loved everything I saw. The main street area, the Big House, the Ross building–it was all amazing and I loved every second of it.
On the big day (interview day) I woke up early to make sure I gave myself enough time to get the the building and get relaxed. I scheduled my interview for the 845 slot, the earliest they offered, so that I could knock it out and not worry about it the rest of the day. The interview was done in a small room in the Admissions office with an MBA2. He only had my resume and apparently had a set of questions from which he chose a few (I didn’t see his list).
Questions:
- Tell me about yourself
- Goals (Short to Long)
- Why MBA/Now?
- Why Ross (this seemed to be a big one as he was very proud of his school)? » Continue reading

This Round 1 candidate for MIT / Sloan had the following interview with an adcom member:
“I applied in the first round to Sloan and had my interview on-campus by a member of the admissions committee on Jan 18th, 2012 and I’ve received my admittance into MIT on February 6th, 2012.
I arrived at the office 15 minutes prior to my interview. On that particular day, there were only two interviews, including mine, at my specific time slot. We exchanged conversation about the weather of Boston, what we each do for a living; stories of how we got to Boston (both of us came from outside of USA for the interview). Our conversation made the waiting much easier. Then it was time for my interview. The interviewer had really read my application thoroughly. She had her questions written out on a piece of paper. » Continue reading
