Every Wednesday, we share a round-up of the latest news from admissions blogs at the top business schools. The past couple of weeks on MBA LiveWire and MBA DecisionWire revealed admissions decisions, interview notifications, and enrollment decisions, in addition to a focus on R3 applications. As such, we’re featuring a couple MBA admissions tips and advice on the career search.

Today is Northwestern / Kellogg’s decision day (there’s a sea of green on MBA LiveWire) and the Kellogg adcom is really excited (understatement)! They posted a welcome on their blog as well as recalled their most memorable new admit phone calls. “Kellogg Admissions team members say that being the bearer of such good news is a powerful and rewarding experience … And sometimes, even an emotional one.” Congratulations to everyone who received positive news today!

The Dartmouth / Tuck 360 Blog provided some insight into whether or not an MBA is truly right for you (and a little nudge for R3 applicants): “The strongest applications come from candidates who have taken the time to figure out what they really want from a program and have done a significant amount of research to help inform their goals and school choices.”

London Business School offered up 5 tips on acing your MBA admissions interview: “Shutting yourself off and only providing short answers will leave the interviewer unsatisfied at the lack of information being provided. You want to allow the interview to flow naturally from question to question. If you cannot show learnings or achievements from your actions then the interview can turn into a back and forth that will not leave a good impression.” For more information on the LBS interview process, take a look at our interview archive. It’s never too early to think of life post-MBA. And, a summer internship is the perfect opportunity to gauge an industry, a company, and your future trajectory. Matthew Wheeler, Tuck MBA ‘16, spent his summer at Converse (way cool) and shared his experiences on the Dartmouth / Tuck blog: “I left the summer with a greater appreciation for the significant impact internal strategy teams can have, a perspective into the life of a general manager, a range of experiences that I can draw on in the future, a host of new friends…and far too many pairs of new sneakers.”

Getting that internship takes preparation and a little help from your MBA program’s career services department. At UT Austin / McCombs, MBA Career Management is a full-service department. “With a student-focused Employer Relations team, we are working to create unique recruiting opportunities at global organizations throughout the year for companies that range from multinational organizations to start-ups, across the technology, finance, consulting and consumer segments. From preparing you for a summer internship to watching you land your ideal post-MBA position, we provide career resources every step of the way.” For more on how MBA programs guide their students to their target careers, check out our Career Services Q&A series.
