The following NYU / Stern interview report was submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 1 applicant who was admitted. Congratulations to them!

I interviewed during Round 1, a bit late in the process (first week of December). I am a woman and opted to do the interview during the normal process, instead of the Spotlight on Women event. My interviewer was part of the Admissions Committee, and she had read my application before the interview. The interview took place in the adcom’s office.

The conversation started off with some discussion about my interest in cycling, as I had listed it as an interest on my resume. Then it moved to why an MBA, why Stern (asked me to list the top two reasons I wanted to attend Stern), and she also asked me what frustrated my about my current position and what I would do to change it. She also asked me to talk about my responsibilities at my current position, and what I’d like to do after my MBA. She asked at the end of the interview what was the coolest thing I had discovered living in NYC.

The tone of the interview was very friendly and relaxed, but my interviewer didn’t react much to what I was saying and was a bit hard to read. Definitely have questions prepared to ask them at the end, as there was about 10 minutes left for me to ask questions, for a total of 30 minutes in the interview.

As I interviewed at the end of the first week of December, my interviewer said that it would take them 2-3 weeks to make a decision on my application, and would likely hear back in January due to the holidays. I was admitted in the first week of January.
