MIT Sloan Interview Report: Round 1 / Adcom / Skype

The following MIT Sloan interview report was submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 1 applicant who was admitted. Congratulations to them!

The interview was via Skype because the Adcom made an exception when my flight to MIT was cancelled last-minute. It was at 6am my time (PST), so I was fairly groggy, but the behavioral nature of the questions and the warm, friendly Adcom interviewee made the interview quite engaging.

Nothing caught me off-guard; however, unlike my other interview experiences, the questions did not focus on my aspirations and goals. As a Social Impact, unorthodox B-school candidate, I was used to the question “Why business school?” Instead, this interview focused on how I felt, what I thought, and how I reacted to several situations – where I managed someone, when I felt uncomfortable cross-culturally, and a time I instituted organizational change.

I had examples to draw from on my résumé and she was clearly familiar with my background. The interview was more conversational than I’m used to, so it was hard to gauge how I performed. However, the conversation resulted in an offer a week later, so it went well. If I were to do it over again, I would practice discussing my experiences and the colorful descriptions of them.
