UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Joins Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellowship Program, Names First Fellow

reaching outYesterday, Reaching Out, a nonprofit devoted to empowering LGBT MBA students to champion equality in business school and beyond, announced that the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School has become the latest school to join its fellowship program.

Kenan-Flagler becomes the 15th MBA program to join as a founding school of the Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellowship, which provides scholarship funds and networking and other opportunities to LGBTQ MBA students and their allies. “Not only that, but Kenan-Flagler has already awarded its first Fellowship!” wrote Reaching Out excitedly on its blog.

The Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellowship is a joint effort between leading business schools and Reaching Out to encourage lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) young professionals and their allies to recognize and pursue business schools and MBA programs as a means of advancing their careers.

Each Fellow is awarded a minimum $10,000 scholarship for each academic year during his or her full-time MBA, as well as the support of a range of Reaching Out programming, mentoring and LGBTQ leadership opportunities, including several developed specifically for the Fellows.

Included within the programming is the annual Reaching Out MBA conference, held each October. The 2015 ROMBA Conference is scheduled to take place in Chicago October 8th-10th.

Students who accept the Fellowship agree to take a national leadership role in planning for at least on Reaching Out initiative while in business school.
