HBS Inks Agreement with Amherst Making Online Business Fundamentals Course More Accessible

HBSUndergraduates at Amherst College will have increased access to HBX, Harvard Business School’s online business fundamentals course, thanks to a new agreement announced this week between the two schools. Similar agreements with other colleges and universities are expected to follow, according to HBS.

The agreement with Amherst is designed to increase access to the HBX Credential of Readiness (CORe) program, an 11-week online course on the fundamentals of business designed by HBS faculty. First offered last summer, HBX CORe has now been offered to four cohorts of students. The next program will begin on June 3rd.

As part of the new agreement with Amherst, HBX will reserve seats in upcoming cohorts for Amherst graduates. With students’ permission, Amherst will verify financial need information that will enable HBX to award financial aid to those who qualify. The agreement with Amherst mirrors a similar agreement that has been in place for Harvard College students since last summer.

HBX CORe was designed to provide students of any background with a foundational understanding of business concepts. “By its design – an online program that students can take even while they’re working during the summer – HBX CORe allows students to continue to pursue their other intellectual passions in college, whatever these may be, from art history or psychology to music or biochemistry,” HBS Professor Bharat Anand, faculty chair of HBX, said in a statement.
