Yale School of Management Announces New LGBT Scholarship

reaching outClass of 2017 students at the Yale School of Management who demonstrate both strong academic skills and a capacity for leadership within the lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer (LBGT) community will now be eligible for a new scholarship opportunity, the school announced this week. Through its partnership with Reaching Out MBA, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering LBGT MBA students, Yale SOM will award two Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellowships to incoming Yale SOM students.

Recipients of the fellowships will receive a minimum of $10,000 in scholarship aid for each academic year, as well as access to a range of Reaching Out programming, mentoring and leadership opportunities, including some developed especially for the Fellows.

As part of accepting the fellowship, students must agree to take a national leadership role in planning content for at least on Reaching Out initiative during his or her time in business school. Reaching Out programming is anchored by its annual conference, held in the fall, and is designed to help educate students about the opportunities and challenges of being an LGBT MBA student and business leader, inspire LGBT MBA students to take on leadership roles in their careers and in society and build connections among LGBT MBA students across a network of schools.

A separate application is not necessary for the Yale SOM Reaching Out MBA Fellowship, and decisions will be made by late spring, the school reports.

Yale SOM is one of several top-tier business schools that have partnered with Reaching Out for scholarship and other programs. Other involved schools include Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, among many others.
