Global Network for Advanced Management to Offer Three Courses This Semester

gnamfortwtittter_normalThe Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), an organization of member schools from around the world devoted to facilitating interaction and collaboration in the study of graduate management education, will offer three courses this semester to students throughout its member schools, GNAM announced. This year’s Global Network courses include two new offerings, one on disruption for leaders working in humanitarian crisis, and another on international management. A third course, on the risks and opportunities in global resource systems, originally taught last year, will be offered again this coming semester.

Global Network courses take advantage of web-based technology to connect students from schools around the globe for both class sessions and team-based project work. The set-up allows students to access the expertise of faculty while also developing key cross-cultural collaboration skills as part of their work in virtual teams. Unlike MOOCs—massive open online courses—the Global Network classes are based on a SNOC—small network online course—model and are therefore only open to students from the top business schools that are members of the GNAM.

The three courses offered this semester include one taught by Chrisanthi Avgerou, a professor of information systems at London School of Economics (LSE), called “Handling Disruption,” which aims to provide socio-political contexts for leaders working in humanitarian crises. The second course, “International Management and Organizational Structures,” taught by Dr. Raúl Montalvo, director of EGADE Business School Guadalajara, will examine the role of strategic decision-making in the global expansion process of businesses. Yale School of Management (SOM) will again offer, as this year’s third course, “Natural Capital: Risks and Opportunities in Global Resource Systems.” First taught in 2014, it analyzes the environmental, economic and social impact of businesses’ natural resource usage, looking closely at the risks, choices and liabilities companies face as a result of using such resources.

GNAM was launched in 2012 by Yale SOM Dean Edward Snyder. Since that time, it has grown to include 27 member business schools in 25 countries across five continents.
