The nine-week, part-time program – aimed at participants with strong scientific, medical or technical backgrounds who don’t have advanced business degrees – was developed to help teach innovators how get their ideas to market. The New York program is one of six Ignite programs now offered in cities around the world to help expand access to Silicon Valley and Stanford’s entrepreneurship and management education.

The Ignite program – which is also offered in Bangalore, Beijing, Paris and Santiago – takes advantage of high-definition distance technology to connect participants both with faculty in their respective cities and with Stanford professors in Silicon Valley. The Ignite courses are immersive, featuring extensive hands-on instruction, much like courses on the Stanford GSB campus. The accelerated program includes management fundamentals as well as practical guidance on identifying, evaluating and implementing business ideas.

“This is a program for those who are planning to start a new venture as well as for intrapreneurs —individuals who wish to bring innovation and entrepreneurial thinking to their current role within a company,” Stanford Ignite faculty director Yossi Feinberg said in a statement. “It provides graduate students, innovators, scientists and engineers from leading companies the essential toolset for creating impactful ventures.”

To date, Stanford Ignite participants have started more than 100 successful companies since the program’s debut in 2006. The $14,500 non-degree program will be held every other weekend from March 27 – May 31, 2015, meeting on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. In total, the program will include roughly 200 hours of training, half of which will be spent on participants’ own venture projects.

The inaugural New York program will accept up to 50 participants, and the deadline to apply is January 12, 2015. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Stanford Ignite certificate.
