IE Business School Partners with Singapore Management University to Launch EMBA for Asia

Spain’s IE Business School and the Singapore Management University (SMU) earlier this month announced plans to launch a joint Executive MBA (EMBA) program in September that will focus on southeast Asia.

“We really wanted to create a program for people looking for a part-time MBA in the southeast Asian market,” Martin Boehm, IE dean of programs, told the Financial Times. “We’re trying to reach out to Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines – places within three to five hour travelling time from Singapore.”

The new one-year EMBA program will include both traditional classroom and online learning components for an intentionally small cohort of just 30 students. “We have to be sure that these students can cope with the pressure,” Boehm told the FT. There will be five classroom sessions as part of the year-long course, four in Singapore and the fifth in Madrid.

Participants in the joint program will take part in a team project conducted with an external company for the duration of the course. The cost of the new joint EMBA will be $75,000, according to the FT report.
