Graduate Management Admissions Council Adds GMAT Testing Centers in China

In response to growing demand, the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC) has added testing centers in four new cities in China to increase access to the GMAT exam for prospective applicants to business school. New GMAT test centers are now available in Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chongqing and Tianjin, in addition to test centers already located in 12 other Chinese cities, GMAC reports.

“We added test centers in these cities because we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of residents in these cities who are taking the GMAT exam, and we want to help more students and professionals in these cities to achieve their potential,” Ashish Bhardwaj, GMAC Asia Pacific vice president, said in a statement.

The GMAT exam is used in admissions by 47 business schools in Hong Kong and 69 in mainland China, GMAC reports. The number of programs accepting the GMAT exam in mainland China has almost doubled since 2010, which GMAC attributes to the progress China’s business schools have made in their global standing.

The GMAT is the only major admissions test offered every week in China, and it is offered almost every day in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, GMAC reports. With the four new centers, which have been added since March, the total number of GMAC testing centers in China has risen to 17 – reaching 88 percent of China’s population in their home administrative divisions.
