Clear Admit Provides HBS Essay Analysis for Beat the GMAT’s “Write Like an Expert” Series

Once again this year, Beat The GMAT (BTG) has featured Clear Admit senior admissions counselors providing prospective applicants with detailed analysis of the essay questions from top business school programs as part of its annual “Write Like an Expert” video series.

The free series of online events debuted earlier this summer, and the videos are now available on YouTube. Clear Admit co-founder Graham Richmond kicked off the series with a detailed analysis of the 2012-13 Harvard Business School (HBS) essays in a video published to YouTube on August 21st.

In the HBS video, Richmond talks about the school’s “incredible shrinking application,” noting that it is one of several schools that have this year trimmed down the essay portion of the application. Last year HBS offered applicants an opportunity to answer four essay questions and use up to 2,000 words to share their background. This year, the school trimmed that down to two essays with a total of 800 words. He goes on to offer his take on why HBS has chosen to make this change, as well as how applicants can most effectively respond.

In addition to providing detailed analysis of each of the two essay questions for this year, Richmond also devotes a portion of his presentation to a new addition to the HBS application process this year, namely the post-interview reflection analysis email. For the first time this year, HBS will give applicants who are invited to interview an opportunity to provide a follow-up email – within 24 hours of the interview – reflecting on how well the interview captured who the candidate really is.

Richmond’s 27-minute video is well worth your time if you are preparing to apply to HBS in the upcoming application season. Check out the BTG Write Like an Expert HBS Essay Question Analysis video here.
