In Campus Chronicles today, we pick up where we left off with The Bottom Line, the newspaper of MBA students at Columbia Business School.
CBS students have founded a new professionally oriented club: The Leadership and Human Capital Management Club, or L.E.A.D. The organization was co-founded early in 2012 by current students Cassandra Pittman and Liz Harrison, and the acronym stands for “Lead Engage Act Develop.” At the opening event, the Board of co-presidents and first-year students discussed upcoming events, which will include panel discussions by entrepreneurships, executives, and professors as well as role plays to help students negotiate challenging conversations. L.E.A.D. also hopes to hold joint events with several CBS organizations, such as Columbia Women in Business and the Public Speaking Association.
The Bottom Line also provided an insider’s perspective on the new Manhattanville campus. The paper reports that Vice Dean of Administration Janet Horan and Manhattanville Project Manager Lilias Folkes believe construction on CBS’s new campus could be finished by 2018. CBS Dean Glenn Hubbard is meanwhile “hoping it’s 2017 … [his] dream would be 2016 because that is the 100th anniversary of Columbia Business School.” The Dean also promised that the transition to the Manhattanville building would not translate into an increased number of students at CBS.
Co-founded by a CBS ’12, Manhattan Tiramisu bar Dolce Vizio held a class for the CBS Gourmet Club in February. Dolce Vizio prepares both traditional and innovative versions of the dessert, including limoncello and mango varieties. Tiramisu enthusiasts can also create their own flavors by selecting the sauce and toppings that go into their desserts. Members of the CBS Gourmet Club created their own tiramisus after an introduction and demonstration from Dolce Vizio’s co-owner.
