Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College Introduce New Master of Health Care Delivery Science
Last week, the Tuck School of Business, together with Dartmouth College and The Dartmouth Institute (TDI), welcomed 50 students as the first participants in a new master’s program combining management education and health care.
The new Master of Health Care Delivery Science (MHCDS) degree targets accomplished clinicians, executives and administrators in the health care industry seeking to design and implement changes in the way health care is delivered in the United States and beyond.
“This is aimed at people who are already managing health care operations and know that bending the value curve in health care is essential for this country’s people and the economy,” Paul Danos, dean of the Tuck School of Business, said in a statement announcing the new program. “This program combines the intellectual capital in innovation, leadership and change management from two world-class faculties and focuses it on educating the leaders who will have to make this transformation work.”
To accommodate the needs of professionals already working in the health care field, the new program’s curriculum combines residential, distance-learning and on-site projects, letting executives apply the learning they gain through the program directly through work at their own institutions.
Dartmouth College President Dr. Jim Yong Kim launched the program, which combines TDI’s groundbreaking research in health care practice and effectiveness, delivery innovation and payment models with the Tuck School’s expertise in strategy, operations and creating and executing change.
Participants in the program bring some of the most challenging issues facing their organizations today, which will be addressed through a range of action learning projects. The program’s goal is to equip graduates with the ability to recognize the challenges and opportunities facing the evolving health care system, the tools to evaluate and choose the best solutions and the skills to truly effect change.
