Audio Slideshow of New Yale School of Management Building Designs Now Available
Work is underway on the new Edward P. Evans Hall, which will rise at the northern end of the Yale University campus and serve as the new home to the Yale School of Management (SOM). Earlier this month, SOM posted an audio slideshow sharing detailed designs for the new building.
The 8-minute slideshow brings to life the plans for the new 4.25-acre business school campus. Designed by award-winning architectural firm Foster + Partners, Evans Hall will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, faculty offices, academic centers and student and meeting spaces centered around a grand courtyard that will act as the heart of the school and provide an outdoor space to study and socialize.
Other amenities will include a 350-seat auditorium, the Wilbur L. Ross Library, a dining commons and coffee shop, a student gym and the Beinecke Terrace Room, a lecture hall/entertainment space with an outdoor terrace providing views of landscaped gardens in the rear of the campus. Located on Whitney Avenue at the northern gateway to the university, the new facilities will replace the current campus, a collection of renovated mansions joined to modern buildings, which until now has constricted Yale SOM’s growth.
An official groundbreaking for Evans Hall took place on April 26, 2011, and construction at the site is now well underway. The entire plot has been cleared of previous structures, and construction crews have excavated the space for the underground garage and begun to shore up the foundation. Once the foundation has been laid and concrete has been poured, erection of steel beams is expected to begin this fall. Installation of the glass façade will come next, followed by work to finish the interior space. Construction of the new building is scheduled to continue over the next two years.
