ESADE and BBVA Launch New Initiative to Support Social Entrepreneurs

Spain’s ESADE, together with multinational Spanish banking group Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), has launched a new initiative designed to help social entrepreneurs advance their projects and maximize social impact, the school announced in February.

ESADE and BBVA hope the new Momentum Project will become a benchmark for the consolidation and growth of social enterprise, providing specialized training and assessment to entrepreneurs with up-and-running projects that can help guarantee the projects’ viability.

The project’s initial step will be to select 10 social enterprises deemed to have the greatest capacity to extend their impact in one of the following categories: housing and urban planning; food production and consumption; transport and mobility; socio-professional reintegration and poverty reduction; social participation and movements; education and access to knowledge; energy and the environment; health and welfare; communications and social networking; market transparency and supply chain disintermediation. Candidates should be entrepreneurs with two or three years’ experience who can demonstrate the viability of their business model and its growth potential.

Beyond giving a boost to up-and-running projects, another main goal of the Momentum Project will be to attract renowned social entrepreneurs, the most skilled ESADE students, specialized BBVA executive mentors and sponsors of Spain’s leading companies to contribute their talent, experience and knowledge.

“Momentum’s ultimate aim is to raise the social impact of existing growth-oriented projects,” Eugenia Bieto, director general of ESADE, said in a statement. “On campus, we know of many entrepreneurs with an ambition to build socially-responsible companies,” Bieto continued. “Supporting them is one of our main missions as a business school.”
