Campus Chronicles: The Cornell Business and Darden's Cold Call Chronicle

Welcome back to Campus Chronicles!  This year we’ll be adding two more MBA student newspapers into our rotation, Cornell Johnson’s The Cornell Business and UVA Darden’s The Cold Call Chronicle.  Though many MBA students are still on break, we’d like to take this opportunity to catch you up with the exciting events that happened on the Johnson and Darden campuses last semester.

At Cornell, the Johnson School Board Fellowship Program began its second year by partnering with local organizations aimed at promoting the arts, education, literacy, health, and family and child development.  These partnerships allow the Board Fellowship Program to better fulfill its mission of improving the local community by matching Johnson MBA students with local nonprofit boards.  While on these boards, Johnson students have the opportunity to help guide community service activities while gaining board member experience.  Johnson students also had the chance to enjoy a celebration of Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, through an original theater and dance performance by Johnson students.  Later in the semester, Johnson’s ice hockey team The Frozen A$$sets claimed victory over Johnson professors in the annual student-faculty ice hockey “grudge match.”

Darden students had the chance to participate in the Marketing Club Brand Challenge where a record-high 23 teams participated in the competition and received awards for best survey, most spirit, and best overall presentation.  Darden’s Capital Management also hosted the yearly First Year Stock Pitch competition, where students were judged by four professions in the investment management industry as they fielded questions regarding barriers to entry and valuation assumptions.   LASA, a club that promotes Latin American awareness at Darden, began hosting “Movie Night” events, where the club shows movies that come from Latin American countries and normally cannot be found in American theaters.
