Harvard Business School Introduces 2+2 Class of 2014
Harvard Business School (HBS) recently shared details about the most recent class admitted to its 2+2 Program, a deferred admissions MBA program targeting promising college students who might not otherwise be considering careers in business.
Launched in 2007, the 2+2 Program invites qualified college students to apply to the HBS MBA program in their junior year. Admitted students then have a spot reserved for them in the HBS class, which they will assume after completing college and two years of approved work experience.
Out of 843 applicants to the 2+2 Class of 2014, HBS admitted 115 students, or 14 percent. Of those, 39 percent are female and 27 percent are international, representing 17 different countries.
HBS now accepts either Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores from prospective applicants. Among the admits to the Class of 2014 2+2 Program who opted to take the GMAT, scores ranged from 510 to 790, and the average score was 727. GRE scores, meanwhile, ranged from 690 to 800 for the quantitative section and 560 to 800 for the verbal section, with average scores of 767 and 679 respectively. The average college GPA among the admitted class was 3.75.
The 2+2 Program’s Class of 2014 includes representatives from 51 undergraduate institutions. Fifty percent studied engineering and natural sciences, 44 percent studied humanities and social sciences and the remaining 6 percent studied business administration.
This new class of 2+2 admits will now go on to complete college, after which they will enter the work force for two years at a range of approved partner companies. They also will participate in on-campus summer academic programs designed to introduce them to the HBS classroom experience and faculty, as well as to their fellow classmates. The 2+2 Class of 2014 will return to the HBS campus to begin its full-time MBA curriculum in the fall of 2012.
