Fridays From The Frontline

Hi there and welcome to another edition of Fridays From the Frontline, Clear Admit’s endeavor into understanding the MBA applicant and student experience from the inside out. A few bloggers, silent over the summer, have come back to share their thoughts on the first few weeks of school (whether as first or second years, it seems a little adjustment time is necessary). The Kellogg blogging contingent had quite a lot to say about their KWEST trips, and applicants continued to cover all aspects of their application experiences.

Steve shared his thoughts about Clear Admit’s NYU Stern School Guide, ate sushi in New York and found the perfect wedding rehearsal dinner spot. Bizwiz concluded his western trip a little earlier due to sad news. Illuminati considered the logistics of getting an MBA in Spain. AJ read a book geared towards women in the business world and learned the author’s thoughts on the ’7 deadly sins a woman can make at work.’ ArdentMeerkat gave a very in depth explanation of how she has chosen the schools to which she hopes to apply. Hari wrote about the MBA cost v. ROI subject that so many applicants consider during their admissions process. One Fresh Kid took the GMAT and got a score with which he was quite pleased.  Rocky had a moment of Rotman interview deja vu.

INSEAD ’09 MBAMRS seemed to be in better spirits than she has all summer, perhaps as a result of classes starting back up? McCombs ’10 Paragon2Pieces told a story about a classmate and their entrepreneurial transformation. Harvard ’10 Harvard Bound was pleased to see her video contribution to institutional memory was up on HBS’s site. Darden ’10 JulyDream was kind enough to respond to Clear Admit’s interest in more photographs with a great summer photo slide show, she also commented on her perspective of the ‘second year myth.’  McCombs ’10 Metal laughed at his workload.

A number of Kellogg bloggers commented on their recently completed KWEST trips. Kellogg ’10 La Coguette was back with a less than stellar review of her intern experience and a round up of thoughts about leading a KWEST trip. Kellogg ’11 Mike’s KWEST trip to Malaysia was fantastic, as has his other b-school related experiences. Orlando enjoyed his experiences in Hong Kong and Macau, though $10 beers were not entirely appreciated. DG found that his non-American status made it sometimes difficult to get to know his fellow KWEST travelers.
Emory ’11 MissionMBA was on hand for the first NYSE bell ringing on an academic institution’s campus. Stanford ’11 PaloAltoForAwhile found that her new Macintosh computer was not as trouble-free as she had hoped. And, finally, Haas ’11 SunnySideUp resurfaced and shared her insights on her orientation week in Berkeley.

And that concludes this week’s round up of the thoughts and actions of MBA bloggers. It’s great to see returning voices in the fold, and hope to see more as the weeks pass. Until then, have a great Labor Day (if you’re US-based)!
