Welcome back to another round of b-school revelations courtesy of Clear Admit’s Fridays From The Frontline! Over the past week students and applicants alike have had their fair share of learning experiences, decision-making moments and fun. As the weather grows ever warmer (for those of us on the north side of the equator, of course) we see people shedding some of the layers of fear and trepidation in favor of hope and/or jubilation.
As time goes by, more and more applicants are getting the final word from their schools. These notifications result in many becoming applicants-no-more, replacing ‘hopeful’ with ‘admitted’ must be quite a load off the minds of many. Columbia ’11 TienyChesney, for example, is no longer writing about whether he will get into his first school choice, instead he gets to write about the open house event that he attended, complete with career panels and Lincoln Center cocktails. Soni’s recounting of his Chicago Booth Admit Weekend made a nice comparative read to TienyChesney’s, though for all the Thursday night drinking, paper airplanes and bags of candy, he was not 100% sure that Booth would be the school for him. Samantha was accepted into Columbia but, like Soni, was weighing her options (Kellogg, Tuck or Columbia) and trying to decide which admitted students events to attend. Columbia ’11, Maxwriter reminded readers that an acceptance and the decision on a school doesn’t end all stress; housing and finances continued to weigh heavily on his mind. Some choices are made easier to make as a result of less than happy news. For Omne, a zap from Duke allowed him to better focus on Wake Forest’s upcoming Scholar’s Weekend. For others the sting of rejection can be softened by interest from another party, as evidenced by Helen’s zap from Kellogg, but interview invite from Stanford. And sometimes good news is just good news, as was the case with Choc Heaven’s recent acceptance into Fuqua’s latest class.
Many current students were traveling a fair amount over the last week. Darden ’10 Mechanigal considered standard characteristics of emerging economies while recounting some highlights from her trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil. McDonough ’09 Hairtwirler also hit Sao Paulo during her three week Brazilian adventure. McCombs ’09 Paragon2Pieces encountered a certain amount of culture shock within her first 48 hours of landing in Shanghai: duck tongue for dinner, and a different definition of ‘potty trained’ for starters. Darden ’09 Mandy did not go as far afield, but shared the photographs from her time in Richmond nonetheless. Duke ’10 MBAStarter shared his impressions of New Dehli after a ten year gap between visits. Ross ’10 gltnfrpnshmt reflected on a lot of things during his trip to Medellin and managed to find some solace, and job opportunities, upon his return.
And that wraps up this jet and plan setting week in the MBA blogosphere. With each passing week, second years get closer to the conclusion of their b-school era, while first years see summer internships on their horizons and hopefuls prepare to leave their current jobs behind for the big b-school beyond. Have a great weekend!
