Welcome to Fridays From The Frontline: first February edition. While January seemed to fly by, we have a feeling that February will have a slower pace. Round 2 interviews are trickling out, but notifications of acceptance won’t begin rolling in until mid-March in most cases. What is an applicant to do? Current students might need a little extra help as they some find themselves in the midst of mid-terms, wondering where their winter vacation went and whether they can have it back.
In the world of applicants, round 1 results continued to be received. Ahembeea, whose posts had been a bit down the last few weeks, was ecstatic to receive an acceptance letter to Emory’s Goizueta’s School of Business and the scholarship for his entire tuition that came with it. MissionMBA also recieved an acceptance and tuition scholarship from Goizueta and was pretty sure he’d attend, though he did share some thoughts on his recent Tuck interview. MBAlmighty unhappily shared his zap from Cornell, but congratulated those who fared better than he. D.G. met with a number of Kellogg alumni members in London and shared the top tips they gave him, like being prepared for Americans love of singing Jon Bon Jovi and waiving as many required courses as possible. TienyChesney shared his travel plans for the next few months and wasn’t sure if did or did not want to quit his job before his official last day of July 1st. Mike continued to cross things off his get-ready-for-Kellogg list, like applying for financial aid, meeting fellow classmates and getting in touch with club leaders. Omne responded to those who suggest that an MBA is only ‘worth it’ if you’re going to a top 10 school and plan on returning to the same industry from which you left. Still unsure of whether he wanted to attend Chicago or Kellogg, Soni confidently withdrew his application to Columbia and counted up the money he spent on schools that didn’t hold his interest after the mid-western acceptances. Months after his Darden interview in London, Ameya described how it went and prepared his readers for his thoughts on the ISB interview he had in late January.
First years, having finally found their feet, continued to work hard on what was in front of them while surely thinking about their summers and second years. McCombs ’10 Paragon2Pieces struggled with team dynamics. Darden ’10 JulyDream had a lot of ‘stuff’ on her mind, from running for the Darden Student Association to an upcoming ski trip. McCombs ’10 Metal wrote about a professor from whom he learned a lot about life, if not so much about microeconomics. Darden ’10 Oren took a moment to congratulate those accepted to b-school thus far, and provided a few words of wisdom.
’09ers were not overly talkative this week. Though INSEAD ’09 Marc Zornes checked in from his current, but not for long, location of Germany before jetsetting all around Asia in the weeks to come. Chicago Booth ’09 MaybeMBA couldn’t believe mid-terms were upon her and made a date to sleep and sleep and sleep and sleep in March.
And that wraps up this week’s wallow into the world of wiley MBA bloggers. We hope that good news continues to reach the eyes, ears and hearts of aspirants everywhere and that current students are cherishing each lesson learned and credit hour earned as much as they can. Have a great weekend!
