According to our sources, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania will soon name a new director of admissions. The former director, Thomas Caleel, left in June, and Anjani Jain, vice dean of the Wharton graduate division, has been serving as intermin MBA admissions director since then. Our sources indicate that the search has been completed and that an announcement is imminent.
The new admissions director will report to Jain and will be responsible for designing and implementing a strategic global marketing plan for the MBA program, as well as for creating and implementing an admissions and assessment process designed to “yield a diverse and academically superior class,” according to a job listing posted on the Graduate Management Admissions Council website when the position first became available.
The director position, which has been open since June 4th, oversees 16 full-time and numerous part-time and student positions.
Former director Caleel, a Wharton alum, assumed the role of admissions director in March 2005, following an extensive search. Prior to joining Wharton, Caleel was a financial analyst at a Silicon Valley private equity firm.
We’ll keep on top of this developing story and let you know who the new director will be as soon as we possibly can. We’ll also plan to invite him or her to participate in our Admissions Director Q&A Series. So stay tuned…
