Welcome back to Fridays From the Frontline! Clear Admit’s weekly ‘grand tour’ of the MBA blogosphere. Summer is entering its second month and many of our American aspirants (or international visitors) will be in for a long weekend full of sun, fireworks and barbeques. Even with the most delicious hotdog (or ‘notdog’) in front of them, many bloggers will still be unable to stop themselves from thinking about their upcoming application or their next week at their summer internship…
Even when she was hiking in Central American rain forests and sleeping at the base of an active volcano, Mindruna couldn’t stop worrying over leadership experience and essay prompts. Ahembeea finalized his list of schools and decided not to play it safe. Maverick also decided to eschew lower profile schools in order to focus on schools with ‘brand recognition’. Chandara, meanwhile, has two brands on her mind: MGMAT and HBS. After completing her third study session with the prep course, she was ecstatic to find that she finally understood data sufficiency questions. She was understandably less enthusiastic when the HBS information session she hoped to attend in San Francisco reached its full occupancy only 13 minutes after she was notified that it was open for registration!
On the current student front, many members of the class of 2009 have recently begun their summer internships. Forrest Gump decided to reserve overall judgment of his employer until he had spent more than a week at the company. That being said, he acknowledged that transitioning back into a work environment was made far more palatable by the attitudes and culture of his coworkers. Iday is also in the early stages of his internship and enjoying the novelty of advising C-Level Executives. He has also stopped taking taxis and is learning about the glories of Santiago’s public transportation system. ’09ers are also taking advantage of the summer, internships or not, and going outdoors as much as they can. -TVU saw a professional surfer ride the waves, CS@HBS took a breathtaking (in more ways than one) hike outside Seattle and Mandy went to Austin for some bike racin’ and beer drinkin’. Finally, Hairtwirler spent more time inside as a panelist and attendee at the Forte Conference in NYC – and was lucky enough to meet fellow MBA-blogger JulyDream in the flesh for the first time!
Though some of the dust has settled from last week’s GMAC controversy many bloggers are still mulling over their opinions on the fiasco. Class of 2011 hopeful Soni had little sympathy for those who used Scoretop’s service, while fellow ’11 applicant TienyChesney had a slightly more empathetic take on the situation. Iday felt that those who had used the VIP service were simply getting what they deserved and that the entire story was a “reflection of the times we live in.” We’re as eager to see how the story unfolds as our blogger friends – stay tuned to this blog for ongoing updates!
And that’s the talk for this week’s walk around the blogosphere. Make sure to tune in next week for the next installment of FFF! Happy Fourth of July!
