Fridays From the Frontline

Welcome back to Fridays From the Frontline, our weekly jog through the most eventful MBA blogs. This week yielded some surprising developments from our applicants, not to mention a number of animated additions from current students. Let’s hear what the excitement was all about…

After a hefty 12-day break, Miss Curly Bee rejoined the blogging world she recently left in hopes of reclaiming her pre-application lifestyle. As they say, once an applicant, always an applicant! Or maybe they don’t say that, certainly not if B-School Bound is any evidence…. In fact, in the shocker of the week, he announced he won’t even be attending business school at all! That’s right, he’s turning down Harvard, Stanford and Wharton to run his own business this fall! With a similar slight of hand, Vidiviciveni gave Columbia a taste of the bitter pill they’ve gotten all too accustomed to dishing out to applicants – a ding! For him, it’s LBS or bust. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Tinydancer found that the scholarship well had run dry, at least for her demographic, and resigned to fund her Wharton degree through loans. And perhaps more literally back at the ranch, Globetrotter415 found himself thoroughly bored at his parents’ home in Houston.

In first-year news, Maybe MBA joined fellow female bloggers in shooting a bullet hole the size of a bowling ball through the theory that women MBAs are doomed to divorce, speaking from experience to back it up. Debunking another myth, CS admitted that even HBS isn’t completely perfect: Some find that the large class size can take the personal touch out of the school’s career services – not that they don’t still get awesome job offers if CS (or the HBS employment report) is any indication! On the other hand, Hairtwirler was all the way up on her alma mater, extolling the extracurricular activities at Georgetown to which she’s been dedicating all her spare (ahem, homework) time. However, MBA Salsera wasn’t singing such a joyful tune about her almost-complete first year at G-Town; she cited pesky core courses as spoiling her fun. Getting back to school spirit, Necromonger shared some viewbook-worthy pics of mod-looking INSEAD Singapore.

Speaking of which, INSEAD second-year Wim linked to a CNBC clip featuring the school’s Dean Frank Brown, in which he speaks on his unconventional selection as INSEAD’s Dean and the school’s unique approach to developing transcultural leaders. Next door – nationally, that is, Ashwyn signed off after reporting from the IESE class of 2008 one last time, while across the English Channel, Patxi dispelled all possible rumors that he may consider returning to Google upon graduating from London Business School. Back in the states, Columbia’s J-Term Johnny took a break from his venture capital job search to celebrate the upcoming arrival of what will likely be his two biggest investments – twin daughters!

And that’s all this week’s MBA blogging news that’s fit to amuse! We hope you’ll join us here next Friday for another round of updates from FFF…
