Fridays From the Frontline

Welcome back to Fridays From the Frontline, our weekly meeting of the MBA minds.  With much anticipated news from schools rolling in, applicants were all aflutter this week, while current students found a variety of things to alight on – from rankings to recruiting to some pretty raw humor!  Let’s have a look…

It was a wonderful week for Achilles, who was graced with an NYU Stern admit on Wednesday!  Despite its famously cold demeanor, no doubt the city the city of his dreams will give him a warm welcome.  On the other hand, welcoming the cold, Mbabound08 solidified her Kellogg decision with an admittedly half-hearted interview at balmy Berkeley and a resultant ding that she all but invited.  Miss Curly Bee was on the receiving end of an interview invitation – from HBS no less!  Now on her plate is a potential GMAT retake to give the adcom some real food for thought…

Meanwhile, Mbadreamer’s still waiting it out for an invite.  In fact, she finds herself getting up at all hours of the night to check her email in case any have arrived (given the time difference in India, this makes a bit more sense!)  These restless days have passed for B-School Bound, who takes a time out to thank everyone who helped him rake in an impressive array of acceptances, promising to keep blogging as he makes his tough decision between top five schools.

The Financial Times Global MBA 2008 rankings dominated the posts of numerous current students this week.  While first-year Necromonger whetted our appetite for the scathing commentary he has in store for FT’s shortlist (despite the fact that his own INSEAD climbed to #6), HairTwirler conducted her own study on Georgetown’s stats, reporting an 85% ‘heard-of-it-in-a-good-way’ rating.  Moving beyond ratings and rankings, Christof delved deeper, weaving a thoughtful web of venerable poetry and meaningful musings after his first week back at Darden this semester, his head bloody, but unbowed after the grueling internship recruitment period just behind him.  Moving even further beyond the rankings, amidst a riveting business law course, Stuart contemplated a career move to law!  Over in Chicago, Iday had little time to contemplate much of anything beyond his backbreaking load of recruiting and Chibus commitments and coursework.

Elsewhere in the blogosphere, second-year Ashwyn checked in from a blogging break since winter break, reporting on his second semester course line-up at IESE and the consulting job offer he’s accepted, not to mention Barcelona’s barbecue worthy weather.  Unlike most of his CBS peers out partying, John stayed in Saturday night to enjoy an SNL skit that just never stops packing a punch, quite literally; over at LBS Fran, too, was living in clips – each more inexplicable than the last!  Finally, Rubeoboy gets us back on track, but if only he knew what his track was!  Beside a sea of uncertainty, just about everything in his post-Stern career future – industry, function and location – is up in the air!

And that pretty much closes out this week’s close-up.  Don’t forget to check back with us next Friday for the latest low down…
