News, advice and resources for business school applicants

Fridays From the Frontline

Welcome back to Fridays from the Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly gallop through the MBA blogging community. With application season culminating and the waiting game well, waiting, in the wings, applicants endured their share of stop- and-go this week. Meanwhile, current students charged full speed ahead into the second semester. Let’s go over to our bloggers to see how things played out…

Miss Curly Bee finished up her Harvard, Wharton, Kellogg and Columbia applications ahead of schedule, but she found herself embroiled in another last minute crisis – what to do now? (Perhaps MIT or Stern!) Vidiviciveni didn’t have this problem, however: after finishing seven applications, the next step was perfectly clear: on to Columbia, #8! B-School Bound, on the other hand, was taking away applications, or trying to… After pondering the tough but moral choice to withdraw his vie for a spot in Kellogg’s class of 2010, he followed his heart and pulled his app, only to receive a Kellogg admit a few days later! He wonders if he still gets karma points for doing the right thing… We’d give him some! Back to business, Vector Space chronicled the GMAT strategies that got him to the score of his dreams, in hopes of inspiring future applicants.

On the first-year front, Anand navigated interview “close lists” at Darden with a sportsmanlike attitude, while resident INSEAD expert Necromonger answered the “will I get in?” to the “how does INSEAD stack up?” queries that land on his blog every week. Juggler also found herself with some time on her hands, namely the whole night before her first day of Wharton’s second semester! Perhaps one of the few people looking forward to winter in Chicago (brrr), Iday heralded the arrival of Winter Quarter at the GSB, anticipating this first opportunity to make use of the school’s famously customizable curriculum; over break he’d been busy customizing himself.

As for the second-years, Jon geared up for the first stop on Columbia’s tech trek, featuring the inside scoop on Google, Intel, LinkedIn and VMWare, and LBS’ Angie offered a run down of the likely interview questions that ‘09ers seeking summer internships in the markets will face. Patxi provided some comic relief from these buttoned up concerns, while Fran chipped in with some scenic relief.

That’s the news from Fridays From the Frontline! Don’t forget to check back with us next week to see what materializes in the calm after the storm…
