According to Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business Dean Paul Danos, the current generation of MBA students thinks about the interplay between business and the community more than any other he’s seen in his 30 years in the field of business education. In keeping with this observation, Tuck will host its seventh annual Business and Society Conference in January.
The student-run event brings top leaders in business to the Hanover campus for three days (January 16th-18th) to examine how businesses today can make money while also making a difference.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Oil and Water: Business Opportunities to Fuel our Future.” Keynote speakers include John Brock, president and CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises, and Matthew R. Simmons, chairman of Simmons & Company International, an investment banking firm focused on the energy sector.
“By focusing on oil and water, we’re discussing two of earth’s most critical resources,” notes Dave Adams T’08, conference chair. “While oil supply is a chief concern of businesses today, water scarcity issues will have a profound impact on future generations.”
Scheduled panel discussions will address the financial risk of climate change, the state of clean-tech investing and the future of responsible water management.
“Students are starting to realize that the power of business to impact society is immense,” Danos says.
