Friday, November 02, 2007 Fridays From the Frontline Welcome back to this week’s Fridays from the Frontline, our weekly foray into the MBA blogosphere. As the fruits of Round 1’s labors begin to materialize, tensions are high in the applicant pool, not to mention in business school, where first- and second-years alike find themselves overworked and overtired (and still loving every minute of it)! Let’s hear about it from our bloggers… The past week has been a mixed bag for edgy applicants. While Bschool Diva hailed the arrival of Christmas on Halloween, receiving an interview invite from Chicago that was anything but frightful, Mbabound nursed a burnt mouth, a mysteriously popped rib and an uncle in the ICU… but hopefully nothing that a good old Wharton interview invite can’t cure! Meanwhile, Achilles burnished his final Darden and Ross drafts and ironed out some recommender issues, submitting both applications with hours to spare. On the other hand, Vidiviciveni left off his last blog post still wracking his brain for “Why Darden?” material - hopefully the school’s upcoming reception will offer him some food for thought. Feeling similarly directionless, Wannabe returned from an application-writing hiatus, vowing to push through to Chicago’s Round 2 deadline despite the onset of applicant fatigue, while B-School Bound admitted he’s been so frazzled he just got around to reporting his HBS invite! Speaking of stress interviews, Asiangal’s run-in with a strange interview question during the recruiting process at Wharton has sparked quite a lively debate - about horse racing, of course. On a related note, it seems HairTwirler thrives under stressful situations, rating Management Communications her favorite course at Georgetown this quarter because she just can’t get enough of the 75-second impromptu speeches they’re called upon to give in class, after just a minute of preparation. Coursework at Darden can be pretty taxing as well; just ask Anand, who shares a comprehensive breakdown of the key elements of Darden’s arduous first quarter. Iday takes a more condensed approach to representing the GSB grind, offering an hour-by-hour chronicle of his manic Monday. Checking in from faraway France, Necromonger weighs in on some of the key differences between job recruiting and placement at top Indian business schools versus international schools like INSEAD. In Cambridge, Mass, CS also has some striking contrasts to share: crimson leaves and HBS’ hallowed halls set against the bluest sky (oh, and also some geese). La Lauderia posted some vibrant photos herself, of she and the Wharton pals celebrating Halloween in high – er – 80’s prom – style. Ash, too, took the ‘picture is worth 1000 words’ approach, chronicling a rousing rugby match between Stanford and Haas via slideshow. Unfortunately, you won’t catch a glimpse of him in these pics… he was recovering from an equally hard hitting party the night before! Mbagladiator found a little time to get out and about over his fall break this past week, although mostly his time off at the Yale SOM was dedicated to “job related scrambling.” In fact, even Angel Angie has been feeling the burn as of late, eagerly awaiting her last week of working full-time alongside her LBS classes. Leave it to Jacek to take a vacation for all those who need it – a 31-day Southern Africa tour, perhaps? With all his preparations in place, there’s only one thing he can’t seek immunization against… the travel bug (although we think he’s already been bit!). And that just about sums up this week’s run down! Enjoy a much-deserved weekend and come see us next time for the latest installment of FFF! Comments are closed. |
