Fridays from the Frontline

It’s time for another look around the MBA blogosphere with Clear Admit’s Fridays from the Frontline! With summer plans underway for many of our bloggers and school still in session for some, posts last week covered a wide range of subjects. Let’s take a look…

Several of last season’s applicants posted advice this week that may be of interest to blogger -tvu and others applying for the 2008-2009 school year. In typically detailed fashion, MaybeMBA shared her approach to the Chicago essays. Meanwhile, older applicants may want to consider Necromonger’s tips. Lastly, UniQpath posted some sound advice for engineers who hope to switch over to business (a transition that may be far more common than she indicated). Advice of a broader scope comes from Ipoel, who just finished reading Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends & Influence People. And for the ladies in the MBA community, RusGirl posted about two interesting opportunities for women in business last week, one a leadership forum in Moscow and the other a sponsorship program from Booz Allen Hamilton.

As for preparations, JatWarrior was busy last week securing his student visa in order to move from New Delhi to Tuck. Taking a slightly different approach, HairTwirler was gallivanting around India and wondering if she should be doing more preparing for Georgetown.

On the current student front, bloggers posting from Europe were, for the most part, still in school mode. Patxi described what sounds like a great day-long meeting of the Advanced Marketing Strategy class at LBS, while Angel Angie was busy with everything from sports to admitted students’ brunches to “creativity and personal mastery”! On a slightly more reflective note, Ed Starr took a look back at his first year at LBS as it comes to a close.

INSEAD bloggers focused on the slightly more social side of the MBA experience last week, with DomoDomo’s thorough analysis of the school’s Sections, and remnants from Montyball still surfacing on Hallonman’s blog.

Back in the U.S., student bloggers who are done with classes for the summer posted about beginning their summer internships. MBA Gladiator sounded like he’s fit right in at his first nonprofit gig at the United Way, and La Laudiaria was certainly making the most of San Francisco during a break from her internship at Google. Enjoying his new internship, Tim K. posted appreciative notes on everything from the self-starting atmosphere to the artwork on the office walls. Meanwhile, as Ash got ready to transition from the classroom to the ‘real world’, he posted a few words of wisdom from his Stanford Professor John Morgridge.

Among recently graduated bloggers, the trend this week was looking back in time. Keven continued an in-depth account of his MBA experience at the University of Wisconsin. Journeying all the way back to her MBA applications, the Divine Miss N posted some helpful advice for those just beginning the process, while the Dirty Canuck ends her 18 months at Chicago slightly bewildered by how quickly they passed.

We’ll close this edition of Fridays from the Frontline by wishing Rungee a happy birthday week! Have a great weekend and we’ll see you back here next Friday!
