Friday, April 06, 2007 Fridays From the Frontline Welcome back to Fridays From the Frontline, our weekly review of the latest developments in the MBA blogging community. It seems like life in the blogosphere has settled down a bit this week, with many posts taking on a decidedly contemplative tone as applicants assess their final admissions tallies, mentally prepare for matriculation at their schools of choice and synthesize their application wisdom to share with the next crop of candidates. Many current students were also in a reflective mood, with first years recapping the highlights of their spring breaks, while second years realized that they are about to be on break (at least from b-school) for good! Let’s pick up where we left off… Following up his cryptic acceptance announcement, Forrest fills us in on the contents of a Chicago GSB admission packet, investigates scholarship opportunities and recoils, for the moment, at the thought of further essay writing. Preparing to take the b-school plunge in a somewhat different way, Suser anticipates matriculation at USC’s Marshall Business School with a few celebratory drinks, while Asian gal, in a slightly less upbeat turn of events, officially seals the deal with Wharton. Still in limbo, MBA babe is caught at an impasse between accepting Harvard or Stanford, although many would doubtlessly welcome her dilemma. Inspired by the springtime weather, Rungee tackles some strategic questions about the MBA application process, also offering a useful timeline reminding next season’s applicants that April is a great month to get started. Ipoel further weighs in with an array of firsthand advice, this time geared toward the younger international candidate, while Juggler gets right down to business, posting a step-by-step essay writing guide that covers everything from active voice to ethical considerations. Not quite out of the woods yet, MBA_salsera vows to closely adhere to Georgetown’s detailed waitlist instructions in time to gain admission to their class of 2009. However, most applicants are finishing up their MBA admissions battles, meaning that not only Clear Admit found time for some April foolery. Take Hair Twirler, for instance, who used the holiday to get even with an annoying boss, not to mention Necromonger, who celebrated with some wishful thinking – sort of, while also covering the opening of INSEAD’s virtual campus in the realm of Second Life, a newsflash that certainly sounds more like a prank. Rounding out this week’s mischief, RusGirl directs us toward the biting satire of marketing guru Seth Goldin. First year bloggers were also feeling a bit less than serious, with Hallonman highlighting this year’s annual INSEAD/Wharton Rocky Dash, while Zanat0s plugged it too. The fun in Philly didn’t stop with racing, however, as La Lauderia and friends engaged in some racy festivities at the Wharton 54 “A Night at the Playboy Mansion” party. Also swept up in the nightlife, not to mention the beautiful scenery, delicious cuisine and great tanning opportunities – oh, and also the weeklong consulting engagement – was MBA Gladiator, who looks back on the highlights from his spring break with SOM classmates in Brazil. On a more somber note, Ash recounts his vacation spent contributing to Stanford’s “Change lives, change organizations, change the world” mission, as a volunteer advisor to small business owners recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Meanwhile, J-term Johnny gets back in the swing of things, mulling over his Summer term course selections at Columbia, while Benny anticipates a slightly less demanding schedule of Spring term classes at Tuck, also breaking the news that Dartmouth will be hosting two presidential primary debates. Over in London, Paxti is on spring break, but can’t help casting his vote for the beauty and impact of this FT advertisement. As for the second-year MBA students, while sometimes pictures are worth a thousand words, in the case of DivineMissN, they only need to say four. Although somewhat more vocal, NoellieBellie is also feeling a bit out of sorts as she comes to terms with her imminent departure from IESE. Mbwana is similarly cognizant of his impending Stanford graduation in just three months, choosing to stay in the bay area for spring break and hang out with friends. And that about sums it up for this week! Have a great weekend everyone! Comments are closed. |
