Welcome to another installment of Fridays From the Frontline, our roundup of this week’s MBA-related blog postings. While the winter weather drags on outside, applicant and student bloggers alike have been staying warm indoors and keeping their readers up to date. Let’s take a look at their latest postings.
Words like “fate” and “destiny” came up frequently in blogs by applicants this week, as they collectively hold their breath in anticipation of admissions decisions, rehashing their interviews and weighing contingency plans. In the interim, new posts run the gamut from –tvu’s discussion of integrity to The One’s thoughts on an alternative career as a surgeon! Meanwhile, on behalf of the many waitlisted applicants who are still hoping for admittance, HairTwirler posted a considerate reminder that once one has been accepted and made a final decision, it’s only polite to officially notify those schools that one won’t be attending in the fall.
While they await schools’ decisions, several applicant bloggers finally have the time to offer advice to next year’s applicants. Iday writes about determining if one is a good ‘fit’ for a school, Juggler offers advice for those gearing up to take the GMAT, and Necromonger describes the ideal recommender. Applicants who still have interviews ahead this season might want to check out the HBS and Fuqua interviews that AGirlsMBA posted this week; for those headed to Columbia or Stern, Peter describes his fun – and very busy – weekend trip to New York City.
While the applicant bloggers are full of jitters and questions about the future, it seems that current students are doing a good job of beating the winter doldrums. Ashwyn, for instance, posted some great pictures of the MultiCulti Festival at IESE. Tuck hosted MBA students from across the country at its annual Winter Carnival, and Benny shares the weekend’s packed schedule on his blog; meanwhile, Rubeo Boy traveled from Stern to McCombs, where he competed in a national MBA soccer tournament. The past week wasn’t all fun and games, though; Angel Angie describes her struggle with British bureaucracy in London, and J-Term Johnny is slogging through exams at Columbia.
Somewhere between work and play, Nagendra describes an inspiring lecture at Oxford by Mindtree Executive Anjan Lahiri, Tim K. reports on what has turned into a successful internship search, and DivineMissN walks us through her day at LBS. Last but not least, there was a changing of the guard at Chicago, where The Dirty Canuck sees first year students taking over the leadership roles for the coming year.
That’s just about it for this week! Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you back here next Friday for another FFF!
